vMix Call is a very nice feature but it lacks one very important component.
Most callers into say a conference or seminar these days, need to share their desktop - i.e. PowerPoint presentations while making the call.

vMix cannot do that on its own, though one can get around this deficiency by using Skype - which allows both video PIP plus desktop sharing simultaneously.
Skype can then be used on a separate computer and brought in as an NDI shot or even on the same computer running vMix.

If vMix can include this feature it would hugely improve its functionality for live events, especially for those of us who (like many I'm sure) use vMix to broadcast conferences, seminars and workshops. If Skype can do this, I'm sure vMix could (?) and I look forward to its being available in the not too distant future.

@ pesi

A vMix to vMix Call can do this.
The caller simply has to install vMix Basic and connect to call.

+1

There was a time when this was not practical using WebRTC. Now I've seen it done. There are two possible approaches:

1 - Collect media from two sources and composite them on a local canvas, which is then relayed.

2 - Send each stream separately, allowing the far end to perform the composite. Obviously requires more bandwidth.

Slightly more in depth:

- Get NDI tools from newtek, including NDI camera app
- Start NDI scan converter and capture the desktop you want to stream
- When connecting to Vmixcall, choose the NDI capture as your camera

Just remember Vmixcall through browser caps at 720p

Vmix Basic does not support Vmix Call. One will need the HD version

I would really look forward to this feature as many do.

Hi,

Of course you can use vMix Basic to set up a video call connection to a video call host.- Connect to Call.
Is then but a resolution of 720x576

Screen sharing with WebRTC can be done without plugins: https://www.webrtc-experiment.com/Pluginfree-Screen-Sharing/#4678445432233145

I would love to see this implemented in vMix Call. Installing a vMix demo or basic on the callers pc is almost never an option for us. A browser based webRTC screen share would also make it compatible with macs.

You can use the software Manycam, they have a free version.

In Manycam you can input your webcam and your desktop and mix it.
Manycam creates a virtual webcam that you can use in vmixcall configuring Chrome.

It's free and easy.

But this is still software that needs to be installed on the guests computer. Many times this is not an option.

This feature will change my life when it is added. I do a digital puppet live-stream and I'm playing with having remote performers. I can currently achieve this using discord's streaming option, but the performer doesn't receive a return video feed of my vmix output, they just hear audio through discord.

Anyhoo, I LOVE VMIX and I can't wait for this to be easier to achieve with less third party apps.

There are now enough examples of this in the wild that vMix Call could be extended to support screen sharing.

This would be a game changer for me as well as a I produce several talk shows with remote guests where people are presenting PowerPoint presentations.

Currently, I am using Zoom with two connected monitors to accomplish this, pinning the video feed of the presenter on one monitor and their PowerPoint on the other and then bringing those in as Desktop Captures in vMix. This isn't a big challenge on its own, but when I want to bring in vMix Social comments and need to use another monitor for that, it becomes more complicated.

+1 Screenshare for vMixCall with Whiteboard functionality (if possible).

I use a 3CX PBX and they have webmeetings included. They use webRTC with screenshare and whiteboard. So it should be possible.

Next problem is, especially these corona days, if you are not the host, you have almost no chance to connect vMix as a guest to existing bridges/conferences/meetings. You always need to screencapture from the software provider. Most of them allow webRTC guests. So the basic functionality is already there.

For adding Powerpoint presentations one can add them in vMix directly. If you don't have access to the pptx file or they don't wonna share it, ask if they are willing to present online. It will generate a http link that you can add as a webpage. This will even work with custom fonts.

Agreed. Some integrated browser-based screen-shaking option is needed. I’d pay more for this. +1

G'day all - new here. I just sent the following feature request via support@

Agree with all of you re: COVID-19 spike in interest in virtual training / lecturing etc. My suggestion to the vMix team was slightly different, but would achieve the same result I think. Excerpt from my email...

...my mate (CC'd) who is a more advanced vMix user than I am, told me that you can load a presentation into vMix, however in medicine - the presentations are overwhelmingly Apple Keynote (like more than 95% of them). I know I can convert - but there are usually videos and other animations etc. too.

Any ideas? If not, I've got a cracking idea for a feature request for you... add forward and back buttons to your existing vMix call interface as per the image below.

These could potentially allow a vMix caller to remotely control a presentation that was an "input converted from PowerPoint" (ie the way you do it) - OR if there were a corresponding app for a separate computer, you could have them advance a Keynote presentation, Adobe Presenter presentation etc. - anything that is advanced by page up / down? ie at the broadcasting end, not the remote caller end? Like building a web-based KVM, but just for sending PgUp and PgDown to either vMix or a small app on another presentation PC (or Mac!). Presumably the far-end talent would be able to see their slides change if you were to send them their slide view as the return video.

Suggestion

Actually we have a lot of videoconference/livestream session. The missing screen sharing function is a really big pain for now. If its will be a paid option, its okay - but right now its a must have thing imho.

The most preferable solution if it will work in-browser, like the webcam sharing.
The other way if you can provide us a new vmix desktop capture version with webrtc output.

The COVID19 problem will be a long story, so this screen sharing function really needed...

I'm really interested Martin opinion about this...

Thank you!
