I'm experimenting with TeamSpeak as a way to have a group of commentators chat about a race in progress. Output of a TeamSpeak channel would be funneled into a vMix audio input via a device.

I've gotten this to work pretty well, but the only device I could find as a 'tie' between the two was a virtual microphone on my dev system present courtesy of a vMix competitor I was evaluating (I like vMix much better btw ;). What I'm wondering is whether vMix offers a similar feature - installation of a virtual audio device I can use as a junction between any program supporting output device selection and vMix, which already offers input device selection.

I am seeing signs of products ('Virtual Audio Cable' for one) that promise just this, but ratings look sketchy and I'm leery of following some of the links I'm seeing, which is a shame being as gaming seems to be one of the last bastions of quality and passion left in computing :( Any recommendations here on the forum, either for a reputable product, a device configuration procedure native to Windows 7, or something in vMix I've missed so far?

This setup could actually be very cool - TeamSpeak has a lot of good functionality, like being able to permission, mute, and adjust the volume of individual commentators, and our people can use their own iPhone/Android devices, with or without Bluetooth headsets, and either on WiFi or 4G through a firewall. It's free for limited/non-profit use, and seems fairly lightweight and stable. I only wish each TeamSpeak channel could be associated with a separate output device - as it stands I have to switch my own client to the channel I want to broadcast, taking control out of the realm of vMix's API (this of course is TeamSpeak's shortcoming not vMix's).

Anyone doing something similar that's found something better than TeamSpeak welcome to chime in as well - I'm seeing names like Ventrilo, Mumble, Mohawk Voice, Roger Wilco, and others but haven't had time yet to look beyond TeamSpeak.

Virtual Audio Cable is the best solution for routing audio between various programs where the "vMix Audio" output option is not supported by a particular application.
