I downloaded a few vst plugins to try with VMix but VMix cannot find them. The plugins are in a directory on my Data Drive (D:) and are in *.dll format. How do I add this to a VMix audio input? I also installed one plug in according to manufacturers parameters (install to what ever directory was suggested to me by the install program) and VMix still can't find the files. Any suggestions?

vMix only supports VST3 plugins, not VST or VST2

I recommend those from Waves.com
Link below offers you (or anyone) 10% discount on all Waves plugins

Thanks for your suggestion. I was hoping to play with a free VST before I pay for one. Any suggestions?

If the VST3 plugin has a .dll extension you have to rename it to VST3.
The location for vMix VST3 plugins is Program Files/Common Files/VST3.

(vMix only supports 64bit plugins, so you need Win7 64bit or Win10)

Hi I have started to get into the audio plugin thingy and I bought the Gold4 plugin from Acustica
and just want you to know how it went. And yes I know this thread is from 2018 and we are now 2020.
But since I am new member I dont want to spam the forum with dublicated topics.

So I did that,(renamed the extension from dll to VST3 and also made sure it was a 64bit plugin).
I had high hopes cause its a rare compressor/limiter.
But it didnt work, It did show up on the list but I got the error message.
So I guess its not all VST plugins that work in vMix.
I then tryed another free plugin called ADHD Leveling tool just to check out if I could get any
plugin working and yes that worked.
adhd leveling tool
I believe now that to get it to work the plugins has to be new & updated, well build and VST3 only.
Its a good idea with certified audio plugins for vMix. Is that something that is in progress? Is there a list somewhere?

Cheers

As indicated since day 1, only 64 bits VST3 plugins work in vMix... Nothing new, it's designed to behave this way!
Renaming to VST3 does not make it a VST3.

Since you're looking for a compressor/limiter, try L1 Ultramaximizer from Waves.
