I don't know if this is a feature of "traditional" broadcast equipment, but I would love it if the FTB button, actually blacked out the video on the main vMix window. I got a bit confused the last time we used it and thought we were streaming video, but unfortunately since I wasn't paying close attention to the vMix program window I didn't notice the flashing FTB button until it was too late. I guess I'll stick to using a blank colour input and fading to that instead.

+1. I never understood the reason why the FTB fade to black doesn’t fade to black on the program monitor, Is there some reason for that?
I can’t think of any advantage for FTB not to display on Program. I only see potentially disastrous disadvantages — such as experienced by Argo.
Best, ...Rowby.

It's not, broadcast FTB always fades the main output window.

Not having the program window fade to black upon FTB is maddening for those of us who came up in broadcast.
I can think of no reason why the program window needs to stay active when I fade to black. None.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE vMIX!!! But this "feature" peeves me every time I use it.

+1 (and also have Master audio represent if FTB is on or off)
Today we were asked to do a quick unplanned interview with one of the presenters after the event livestream was finished. My operator just started a new recording, looked at the Output monitor which together with audio seemed just fine - NOT. As a result with got a black and silent video interview, not possible to charge our client for that, besides their disappointment...
This time, again, we were fooled by the unlogical behavior of FTB.

There is actually a good purpose for this. It actually shows you what is going to be there when you UN-FTB. If you want to come back with different layers and a different shot, you can set it up while in FTB.
Just look at the Blinking Red Light. :-)

Steve, You are making a good point, but the problem that face many of us persists. We too often miss the red blinking light.
Being a swede, for which consensus is da thing, I suggest a compromise...
...How about making FTB behavior an option in Settings, where default is as has been (for backwards compatibility)?

Just adding to the chorus.
- FTB needs to take down the program window to black.
I too, have been caught out there missing that flashing RED button during intense situations. Its usually the dead master audio meter which alerts me to a problem, as I can still hear audio in the monitoring headphones. Worse case was a phone call to alert me that the live stream was up but they saw nothing but a black screen. I have trained myself to always check that indicator and the audio meter now so it really doesn't happen anymore. But really, shouldn't the "Program" window show you exactly what is going out (or not going out) to recording and live stream?
- FTB needs a duration setting. The current duration is so fast its like a soft/slow cut to black! I would prefer a variable setting as there have been times I would have liked to bring down video and audio over the course of a several seconds (as opposed to .5 seconds.)
Thanks
PS. I just discovered that in the multi-view display, FTB DOES take down the program window. Go figure! It takes down the program display in multiview and not on the main application screen??

Thanks for the Tip. I have actually done that on occasion when at work where we have the 4k version of vMix. But with smaller budget setups like the Basic HD version which I use in other locations, it would be a shame to waste an input for FTB use when the function is already built in. Is it really that difficult or costly to add an FTB duration setting and realtime FTB in the program window to the application code? I am not a programmer so perhaps that question is not very well informed.

For us, many times we stop streaming and FTB, but we continue to send the live screen to various parts of our campus. If the live screen was to FTB that would not work for us. It has on occasion been forgotten that FTB was on, but we have "learned" to watch for the flashing red button.

+1. An option to black out the live window or not, similar to the choice to show the GPU\CPU alert notifications, would be perfect.

+1. I have done similar mistakes... Talking about compromises: To fulfill the needs if someone needs to have content in the program window visible during FTB, why not have a flashing header of the program window? Or introduce a red flashing border around the program window? Or place a big red cross (static or flashing) as an overlay over the program window...? Any of these suggestions or similar would get better attention rather than just the small flashing FTB-button. Thx :)

I am surprised I didn't post in support of this when the thread was originally created, but I agree. As MediamanNYC suggested below, being able to set the FTB duration would also be nice. I imagine it could be similar to the "QuickPlay Duration" box on the Settings -> Options screen (called "FTB Duration"), with another checkbox below - "Display Black on Main Output window when FTB is selected."

I really like the "compromise" idea - let the the user decide which FTB behavior.
Thanks.
