Have you folks gotten a reference build of Intel's upcoming Hades Canyon NUC8i7HVK NUC yet?
I'm interested to see how it does as a vMix Production machine. I'll be replacing my personal machine soon and this on the list of "get it if it can do the job" rigs.
Any thoughts on this either way?
Best,
Chad

They use an AMD vega GPU. Vmix works best with Nvidia gpu's, but i've had succes with AMD cards as well in the past. I'd love to see what we can do with these, especially in an NDI only setup.

They're interesting, but I'm a little uneasy about the fans that can't be readily cleaned. The YouTube videos I've seen reveal that the blowers are under the mobo can can't be accessed directly. That seems like a longer term issue, unless it's always is a very clean environment.

Thanks! But the link says I do not have access to the content. Any ideas? Regards Dave.

The FB link is to the Streaming Idiots group, which is worth joining.
In short: experiences with the Hades NUC are described there as really positive.
Quoting Sherman Patten:
"Current Test results for the 8809G NUC8i7HVK with 32gb RAM and EVO 960 M.2
The Good: -8x 1080P@59 BMD Quad 2 via Sonnet Echo Express iii-d Thumderbolt3 dock (no dropped frames after 30 minutes) -8x Multicorder h.264 8bit Baseline (gets some dropped frames when I start, also gives GPU overload warning for a moment but then none dropped after that on a 30 minute test, 33% CPU)
Not so Good: -CPU overload quick when trying Prores LT program records at 1080p -PGM h.264 and Multicorder at the same time max out the GPU pretty quick. Setting program record off of hardware encode works better, but brings CPU up to 50% or so.
This will be a great box for the smaller shows and or ones you break out VMix rolls on to different user stations then using NDI or SDI to connect them."
Regarding the Hardware encode, if I recall correctly, 2 streams (livestreams or local recordings) can be hardware encoded (i.e. on the GPU) at the same time; a 3rd and further need to have hardware encoding (GPU) off, which means that the CPU will encode them. This is the case for Nvidia, the GPU that vMix recommends. The Hades Nuc has AMD, not sure if that changes the approach towards the hardware encoding on the GPU.

Cheers I will join the group. I currently have an older 4790 which is a bit big to lug around for smaller 2 camera inputs and 1 SDI out plus multi bit-rate streaming jobs.

The hardware encoder leverages NVENC, which is unique to nVidia GPUs. GTX boards have two hardware encoders. Quadro boards have four. Interestingly, according to Passmark Labs the i7-8809G has about the same compute power as a the i7-5775C in my SFF Airtop-PC. The 8809G is an 8th generation laptop part, whereas the 5775C was a 5th generation desktop part. It's interesting to note how raw CPU power, while growing, is not always growing as quickly as we might think. The 8809G is a monster laptop chip.

mjgraves, with regards to Quadro GPU's, where do you have the four encode sessions limitation from? https://developer.nvidia...u-support-matrix#Encoder

I read it hereabouts. Perhaps admin will confirm or deny. I know that my GTX750ti delivers only two.

Geforce card are limited to two nvenc on a system. If you install 4x geforce cards you will get only two nvenc. If you use one quadro and one geforce on same system you will get only 2 nvenc. If you only use quadro card installed you do not have any nvenc limit. It depend of resolution or how good is the card. For example with p4000 you can encode about 8x 1080 50i streams. Or 5x 1080 50p streams. For sure with p6000 this will be better.
Regards
Jose

I may soon be able to experiment with this for myself. I just bought an HP Z2 G3 workstation for my wife. It comes with nVidia Quadro M620 GPU.
