Why was VST3 chosen for the VST format instead of VST2? We run radio stations and all our best professional grade audio software is not compatible with the new update. Is there any chance vMix might entertain a compatibility with VST2? We checked with our software providers and they do NOT intend on upgrading from VST2 to 3. Bumming!

Hi,
Steinberg no longer supports VST2, and a lot of the older plugins have reliability issues due to the original standard
not being designed to handle 64bit (which is a requirement of vMix)
VST2 was created back in the late 90s so it is not ideal.
That said, I have not heard of an audio plugin company refusing to support the latest standard unless they are no longer in business, and would be interested in hearing who they are.

We use StereoTool for our FM stations. It's the best software audio processor out there (according to many) - StereoTool.com - no plans for VST3.
I have also searched for some good ones and have found many are still VST2 and do not work. It's been frustrating.

There are loads of really high quality vst3 plugins from various companies. Anything that isn’t compatible with VST3 or equivalent format are probably not plugins you want to use. The technology and advances in sonic quality in audio processing plugins is so great, using old plugins isn’t normally a good idea. It’s like using an old camera that was super expensive back in the day vs using your 4K iPhone camera. Not a whole lot of reasons to use the old. Not only do they typically not Sound as good, they often are buggy and can cause issues with newer software. Best plugin companies include. Waves often has deals where you can get a $200-300 plugin for $25-50. We got a sale a few years ago of a mastering pack from Waves that was originally $900 for only $150.

use Reaper and run your vst 2 and send the audio into vmix with asio reaper re-route. add a audio input in vmix for those channels. it works great, you can send a bunch of tracks out of reaper in to vmix.
