Howdy... I know that for a while vMix has recommended a GSYNC laptop so that only the GPU is used for the best performance with vMix, and not the integrated graphics... and to watch out for Optimus-enabled laptops... However, I'm wondering with this fairly new info on the knowledgebase: https://www.vmix.com/kno...n-nvidia-optimus-laptops...is it now the case that as long as you follow these steps, you can still get full performance from a non-gsync Optimus-enabled laptop? There are some GREAT laptop options out there now that aren't Gsync and DO use Optimus, and if this setting removes the issue of the Optimus bottleneck, then that would be a great development! :) Let me know your thoughts... OK... So, I did some testing today on my older 7th Gen Gsync laptop, and my new, 8th Gen 6 core Optimus laptop (both with 1060 graphics).... It looks like they are nearly identical performance wise (which makes sense as they have the same graphic card). This was 1 camera coming in via a BlackMagic Decklink Duo / TB3 system, streaming at 720 to Vimeo and recording at 1080p to the internal HD... Hi,
The article you noted is actually from a few years ago but was recently updated.
We recommend G-SYNC laptops where possible for the following reasons:
1. Optimus runs all display output to the intel graphics. So if you need to output to multiple monitors
it is going to run at much higher render times than G-SYNC.
2. Using a lot of inputs is also going to reduce performance on Optimus compared to a G-SYNC laptop for the same reason.
3. 50/60p productions will not look very smooth at all on the monitors on Optimus for the same reason.

Thanks Martin. I think the OP's question still stands: the KB article suggests that when one HAS a laptop with Nvidia Optimus, telling the Nvidia control panel to use the discrete GPU (and not the integrated Intel one) for vMix, will circumvent all Optimus bottlenecks.
Am i reading the KB article right / wrong?

No, the article describes how to set the NVIDIA graphics to be used by vMix, but Optimus by design always routes the final result via Intel graphics.
So while it improves performance by doing the bulk of rendering on the NVIDIA graphics, the final display bottleneck of sending to Intel graphics
is still subject to the pitfalls I mentioned.
