I sometimes get long clips that contain multiple shots for use in vMix. It's best to use these without cutting them down, since that causes quality loss.

At present, it's difficult to mark precise in/out points. I can see the position displayed, but as there's no jog functionality, getting to the exact frame I want is challenging. This is especially important when I'm trying to sync up dialogue audio from another source and not have lip-flap.

It would really be handy to be able to enter in/out numerically.

Also, in the positional indication on the preview window it would be great to be able to recue to the in point. Heck, simple Goto controls for in/out would be great.

+1

Maybe cursor keys could be enabled to get frame accurate positioning?

Keyboard shortcuts for Forward/Reverse Jog in Preview using the Left and Right arrow keys.

There are also shortcuts for Mark In, Mark Out, Mark Reset In, Mark Reset Out and Mark Reset. Cheers.

Addendum : Notes

MPEG GOP (Group of Pictures) can contain various combinations of I (intra-coded image) , P (Predicted image) ,and B (Bi-directional Predicted image) frames. I‑frames are the least compressible image and don't require other video frames to decode.

vMix relies on the MPEG video file I-frames as it’s point of reference when jogging between video frames. It will only jog forward or backwards between each of those I-frames. So if the I-frame setting for the video file is set to 25 (Pal system), then an I-frame is positioned every second (1000ms). So each Jog movement will forward/reverse in increments of one second.

Alternatively, if the I-frame setting for the video file is set to 1, then an I-frame is positioned every frame (40ms, Pal system). So each Jog movement will forward/reverse in increments of one frame.

To benefit from the advantages of frame accurate positioning within MPEG video files, record and/or render those MPEG video files with an I-frame setting of “1”. Many editing and recording software support this feature. Though I don’t believe vMix has this I-frame user setting available in Recorder or MultiRecorder at this time.

The free software “MediaInfo” is an excellent resource for investigating the technical specifications for graphics, audio and video files. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo Look for the Video/Format Settings parameter “GOP, N=” to determine the interval for the I-Frames in a video file.

BETech - I can only make this accurate to the nearest second on my MP4 recordings (from vMix) in a 'list' type input - no matter what values I use for the -= or +=, however, it is a vast improvement over scrubbing alone, through a long file - thanks for the info.

BTW, I had to use -=1 for reverse and +=1000 to move forwards (any lower and it snaps back to the previous second).

Still very helpful though - thank you.
