Hello Everybody,

I'm confused. In Triggers, what's the difference between

OnTransitionOut
and
OnCompletion

Thanks,
...Rowby.

Let me set up a senario

....You have 3 inputs, a camera as one input, and a video clip as your second input, and a full screen graphic or still image as the third input. You have the video clip playing, and you want at the end of the clip to switch to the camera input...you will use "On completion", and select the camera as your input to switch to...that will cause vMix to automatically switch to the camera input at the end of the clip.... if you want to switch back to the camera, or the graphic before the clip is complete, then you select "On Transition Out", as most likely, you will use cut, wipe...etc...then vMix will switch to which other input you choose to switch to in your setup...

Set up something, and do your test....that is how I learnt a lot of things in vMix over the years...I would spend time in trying different things to see what happens, so that when I have to do it, I know without having to read the manual.....I learn by doing, more than reading....

Hope I helped.....

Thanks Joeboe!

That made sense — and explained why I was not getting the results I expected

Generally speaking, if you want the trigger to take effect at the conclusion of an element such as

A video
A png sequence
A audio file

...you woukd most likely use upon completion

For all or most other inputs that contain media without a specific length p, such ad

A photo
A still graphic

... an transition out would be the thing to do.

And yes I’ll exoeriment.

all correct apart from a graphic photo doesn't dictate to vmix when it's completed. For that you would put a number into the delay box in milliseconds, 5000 = 5 secs (after transition in)

as Joe said make a dummy project and go crazy then filter it onto your main project

I do it all the time...that is why it was so easy to pop in and say my bit....did it last week on a tennis stream....but I use UTC as my control surface, so, when I trigger the commercial break, it plays all the clips from a list, and then at the end of the list, it triggers a 12 sec. clip to let the commentators know that they will be live in 12 secs, without having to tell them...plus, I have it to cut the audio from all sources except the clips, and at the end, it triggers on the audio for the commentators...
triggers make life so easy....just click and let the software do all the work while I sip on a beer or 2....

Happy vMixing rowdy
