Help with External Audio Mixer

Hello all, I'm fairly new to vMix and I would state that I'm not fairly good when it comes to audio. I was hoping to do a Facebook live in a couple of days but somehow when I do a stream test, my mic in is quite muffled and has a lot of static. The mixer that I'm using is a tmix DM20. All audio inputs to the external mixer is fine as I can hear it clearly via speakers but when I add the audio input in vMix it becomes very weak and muffled.
If anyone has a solution to this, I'd be very thankful. Thanks in advance

The first obvious question is:- How are you interfacing it with your computer and vMix? (ie. What is the "audio device" that you're selecting as an input in vMix?)

I have 3 inputs - mic rear, mic front and line in. When I choose mic rear as my audio input in vmix and start to test and record, it becomes very distorted. It has no problem when I use the same mic for Skype and Zoom.

And what is the connection from the mixer to the computer? If it's an analogue cable then I would suggest it goes to the Line In, not one of the Mic inputs (which, assuming you're taking a Line Out from the mixer, would be expecting a lower-level signal, hence the distortion).
However, I get the impression that the DM20 may have the option of outputting to the computer via USB - have you investigated this possibility?

I do have a line in input as well and sadly it has the same result as the other mic inputs.
The DM20 does have a USB A connection but I'm not really sure if it can connect to the pc via USB A to USB A

It could be that your mixer is outputting at pro/broadcast level (peaking well above 0dBu, anything up to +24dBu) whereas computer Line In is typically at the semi-pro/consumer level where the input stage starts clipping around +4dBu. One answer might be a "pad" (attenuator) between the mixer output and the computer input. I normally use a 20dB pad (or a pair for stereo) to convert broadcast audio outputs to a range that consumer inputs can comfortably handle.

I'll try and change the dBu by the mixer and see if there would be any difference when it goes through vMix. Will update you later. Thanks

Hi, I had to change mixers from dm20 to Alto Live 1604. I connected the Alto mixer to my PC via USB and I can see it as USB Audio Codec. My problem now is that I have a looping when I choose the audio output as the audio codec. I tried changing the audio input to mic rear but I get an error.

I finally got it to work properly. I stopped using the mixer via USB and just used it as normal. I put the master output as "Speakers (Realtek HD)" as there would be audience during the live program and would be needing to hear what was said with the mic and video clips. I also separated the mic input and videos/music to BUS A/B. My main problem now is when I do FB Live, would the output to FB have to go through the Master or do I have choice with the two BUS?

You have a choice of audio. In the streaming settings, click the cog next to "Quality" and you should have the options of:
Master: 2 Channel Master mix (default)
BusA: 2 Channel A mix
BusB: 2 Channel B mix
MA: 2 Channel Master + 2 Channel A
MAB: 2 Channel Master + 2 Channel A + 2 Channel B
