Hi Everyone,

We are still getting ready for our first production with vMix and wondering the best scenario for input and output resolutions.

All our cameras support 1280x720x30p and 1920x1080x30p.
Magewell 4x SDI PCIe capture (first generation) supports 1280x720x30p and 1920x1080x30p
BMD Decklink SDI (for clock camera) supports 1920x1080x30p (1280x720x30p not supported*)
External Renderer (BMD Intensity Pro) supports 1920x1080x30p (1280x720x30p not supported*)
2 Streams (1280x720x30p at 2.5Mb and 1Mb)
1 internal recording (1280x720x30p at 5Mb).
Various video clips (currently at 1280x720x30p)

Video card: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050

Just wondering the best settings to use for this. I am forced to use 1920x1080x30p for the External renderer and for my BMD Decklink input, but I could set my project and other cameras to match my streaming resolution of 1280x720x30p. Would this be best or should I set everything to 1920x1080x30p except for the streams. What would be a lesser load the system?

Thanks

Between 1280x720x30 and 1920x1080x30, 1080p would be better.

Since you mention a clock camera, this seems to be a sporting event. If it is hockey, basketball or another sport with a lot of quick movement/action, you might want to consider running everything at 720p/59.94(60). The Blackmagic devices and the Magewell can all do that. Hopefully your cameras have that setting.

For your second stream you may want to consider something slightly lower (unless #2 is going to Periscope) such as 360p or 480p, since your main stream is at 720p/2.5Mb.

Thanks for the info.

We will be streaming our first basketball game with vMix. We have always used Wirecast and rarely do we have the ability for more than one camera or crew. I never even thought of 60p. Would that be a heavier load than 1920x1080x30p? I love the look of 60p, but haven't attempted anything other than uploaded Youtubes. I don't know if all of our cameras support 720p60 but will check.

We're not using Periscope, but due to our customer restrictions, we are forced to use the streaming settings I mentioned.

Thanks
