Hello, I am looking at the Datavideo DVK-300HD (Live real-time HD chromakey and luma key solution) as a more advanced option for keying in our studio. I have already spoken to Martin @vMix and am awaiting a response from Holdan (UK distributor) however I wondered if anyone else had any experience or thoughts on this option. Although vMix has live keying built in it has been problematic for us and therefore I am looking for something a little more advanced. We use a permanent greenscreen studio with fixed lights and for many years we have obtained great results when using Adobe Premiere/After Effects post production keying options. In vMix it tends to be hit and miss with the worst results around frizzy hair with no adjustments making it good enough for general use. Looking at the Datavideo DVK-300HD I am looking to potentially utilise the key and fill outputs that this box provides. I note this is an option looking at page 27 of the manual - http://www.resource.data...Datavideo_DVK-300HD.pdf. Rather unusually I do not wish to add the background using the keying hardware (as this needs to be controlled in the vMix software for configuration reasons - I also don't have any spare fullscreen outputs), instead I am hoping to take the main output which I will feed into one input on our vMix machine, I will then take the matte output and feed this into a second input on our vMix machine. vMix has provision for a key/fill input which I am then hoping to use to combine the original signal and the matte from the hardware keyer performing the final stage of the keying in vMix. See https://www.vmix.com/hel...utSettingsColourKey.html section at bottom re key/fill input. My first question is will this actually work and will it be better than using vMix's built in keying? If so is there likely to be any loss of features/capability from the DVK-300HD or is the combination of the original input and the matte a straightforward last stage? Any help or suggestions would be very useful. Alex

It should work since they are already doing this with their switcher on page 30. An audio delay will be needed, page 11 but that's easy with vMix.
Good for the price.

Update:
Holdan's reply was encouraging
"This use should be no problem…
2 years ago DV-TW showed this set up with a SE-2800, feeding separate Fill and an Key signal into the switcher, and let the SE-2800 do the actual overlay/ mix ( just like working with a Fill and Key signal from a CG-300 PC with DeckLink card…)"
Is anyone already doing something similar as I would love to know how different it is to using vMix's built-in capabilities?
Alex
