Howdy...

I have an Asus ROG Strix system with vMix. It has both an HDMI and a Displayport output....

I'm wondering if, with the Standard HD license, I can use both of these... One as a multi-view, and the 2nd as an output to drive an external recorder (with audio)?

Is that possible? Do I have to set it up as 3 monitors? Or is there another way to do this?

Thanks!

Best,

Ben

Hi Ben

I have always done this with my older Asus ROG laptop which has 1 HDMI and 1 VGA.
Just set Windows to use all 3 monitors in extended mode so that vMix can use them.

Things to care about :
- if you need audio for your recorder, you have to set it accordingly
- I found it useful to use an HDMI splitter on HDMI out in order to have fullscreen PGM as well as sending the signal out to any device supporting HDMI in
- sometimes it's necessary to adjust monitor frequency (25, 30, 50, 60 Hz etc...) to make sure the signal is correctly "seen/received" by the destination device (it impacts framerates)

Hope this helps
Guillaume

And no, you can't have two Fullscreen outputs with vMix HD, you need vMix 4K for that.

We typically produce 720 50p, and frequently encounter a slight jittering/frame loss if the ROG's display outputs (eg HDMI or DP) are set to anything else than 60 Hz in Window's display settings.

Howdy... I thought you could do 2 with the normal HD... One as a 'Full Screen' and one as 'External'... No?

Best,

Ben

External is not a monitor output, it can be thought of as a virtual webcam that uses your vmix output as its source. So, if you have a program that can display that image, you could show that on another monitor.

I understand... So can the External be routed to the displayport or HDMI on my laptop? Or do I need some sort of additional output device like a BlackMagic Mini Monior?

I'm hoping I can use the displayport on my laptop to run the multiview, and then use the HDMI as an output to feed a recorder...

Thanks!

Best,

Ben

External can be routed to a separate video output device like a BMD Mini-monitor but cannot be routed to your video card (HDMI, DP, etc.)

If you have vMix 4K or higher, you can have two Fullscreen Outputs and two External Outputs and four Virtual Outputs.
