I need your help! I'm doing a live stream next week in Austin. It's my first audio only stream. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way in vMix to stream AAC audio only and no video to conserve bandwidth. Anyone ever do this before?? The only stream options I see are with video.

Hi again !

vMix is not an audio only streaming solution, but you can stream at the lowest resolution, just use a color background (maybe with a logo or a static text message) and give video only 20 Kbits.
This way even with less than 200 Kbits for upload, it should be OK.

@ tessprotesto

The first question I would ask is "Who or where are you streaming to?" (I'm guessing Facebook but you might have another CDN in mind)
There may be apps provided by your CDN to facilitate audio streaming from your PC.
As Guillaume points out there is no feature within vMix to stream only audio (although I believe a request for that has been made, so adding yours support there may assist in seeing it come to fruition).
Having said that though, you should be able to stream audio only from Adobe FMLE (you'll have to download that if you don't already have it) if you disable the video feed (tic box).

We do this often.
Download vac and use the output to feed your audio encoder. I use shoutcast but BUTT works fine as well.

It has been a godsend because we stream live video but transmit audio over FM at the same time.

VAC is powerful, but complicated. Better off using Virtual Audio Cables from VB-Audio. That is, unless you need explicit control of the audio stream properties. They're free as well.

Thank you all! I have found a compromise. We are streaming from vMix to DaCast, though customizing the player so now video portion will show, simply a play bar.

I was looking at vMix as a way to stream a live radio show and the way that Tess and DWAM are doing it really helped me decide. It really works great and I am using under 200kbps. BTW - I am hoping that they will decide to add video at a later time - that's why using vMix Basic is a great way to do this.
