I'm new to vMix so the answer to my question may be in a configuration or setting.
I am noticing that the transition Duration Milliseconds only seems to affect the "in" and not the "out." So if I set Fade to 1000, the output being replaced ends abruptly after the new one fades in slowly.
Also, one of my preferred transitions is dip to black, but I don't see anything like that. Would that be something I'd have to create in a Stinger?
Thanks.

Quote:I am noticing that the transition Duration Milliseconds only seems to affect the "in" and not the "out." No, it's effective on both in and out Quote:my preferred transitions is dip to black This is a cinematographic or at least a post-production transition effect. This is never used in Live production. If you want you can do it anyway, either with a stinger or simply by switching in and out to a balck input

No, it's effective on both in and out As you can see from this (lo-res) sample, the existing output appears to cut abruptly after the fade. This is 1000ms fade between two titles. Is this normal behavior? Quote:my preferred transitions is dip to black This is a cinematographic or at least a post-production transition effect. This is never used in Live production. I transition between the two with the fader button, manually. No shortcuts. I've attached the relevant illustration from the user guide. Seems it is the correct behaviour with transitions , duration applies to the preview being "faded" etc
at least it behaves here to in the same way (2 inputs with TextHD title transitioning, not overlaying !)

OK I think I got it. Just try the same thing with 2 cameras inputs or 2 video inputs. You will see you'll have a 1000ms fade transition I think your issue comes from a misuse of transitions for titles. Check this : http://www.vmix.com/help19/Overlay2.htmlTitles are supposed to be overlaid with 1, 2, 3, 4 buttons of each input. You can set the transition type and speed for each overlay: The Overlay Settings window specifies how an Overlay will display. The window can be accessed by clicking the Overlay button in the bottom right hand corner of the main window. Hope this helps Guillaume

doggy is correct. The behavior is for the transition effect to layer overtop of the current Input whether that is any one of the desired effects. Once the transition has completed, the 'underlayer' cuts to Preview. In bluesgeek's example, the cut (or abrupt disappearance) is observable because of the alpha channel of the new Input (Text Input).
@ bluesgeek
If you try using two different "Colour Inputs" and place your Text Inputs as Multiview (MultiLayer) Overlays within each, you will see it works fine. Hope that helps to clarify things a little.

Ice Wow, everyone is correct! I'm quoting Ice here because his mention of the alpha channel explains why the problem disappears when the titles are configured as overlays… it's the alpha channel. (This also explains why I get the same problem when using titles imported as PNGs rather than as JPEGs with black backgrounds.) So, Ice, your solution of assigning the titles as overlays in a Colour input is most elegant and easy. Thank you all for helping me to understand. Problem solved. As a new user, I am very pleased to see how inputs can be so nested.
