Hello. I recently pieced together and purchased my ideal portable live studio. First I bought a JVc HM200 which I'm loving so far. Then I bought an Asus 2-1 4k touch laptop and downloaded the 60 day trial of Vmix. I'm really excited to configure and test. So far I've added my Logitech c920 webcam and now I want to add the HM200 as a wireless source. I'm not sure how to configure the camera and Vmix to accept the stream. I have several protocol options for the HM200 including RTMP and UDP. But both the camera and Vmix asks for a URL and stream key, so I'm not sure how to generate the stream key or make the two communicate. I'm sure this should work over wireless LAN. I'd also like to be able to send the camera feed to Vmix remotely (different networks/locations) but from what I've been reading, I'll need a server like wowza to bounce the signal first. Any help with figuring this out is much appreciated. I didn't see any threads on the JVC HM200 but if there is, please feel free to direct me to the appropriate thread.

I think you won't be able to use RTMP without a server. Yes Wowza is an option. Check the community version of Mist server aswell. Very easy to setup and use, and free.

UDP might work without a server, but I need precise specs to be sure.

However having such a great camera to use streaming connection to vMix is really a pity. You have a really pro camera. With a cable you will get fabulous image quality, uncompressed signal. Using low bitrate streaming for ingestion you will lose all the benefit of such a device.

Besides you will get latency. Several seconds with RTMP, certainly with UDP too... It's really a shame.

If you want to go for wireless transmission, there are many topics about that in the forum, please take time to search a little, it's quite boring to always repeat the same information for people who make no effort at all to find on their own.

I regularly use a JVC GY-HM650U for streaming. I have never experienced any of the negatives from the previous poster although we are talking about a $7,000 professional streaming camera vs a $2,000 camera. That might have some bearing. Point is that your camera is very capable of sending the audio/video in a variety of ways.

I set up my camera a couple years ago with RTSP prior to RTMP being available. You should be able to choose your preference.

First thing is to setup the camera on a network so that it gets an IP address. I do this either with a wifi dongle, usb to ethernet, or a usb hotspot over a WAN. After that, follow a connection type here:

After your camera is on some kind of network and has an IP address, put your laptop or desktop on the same network.
Choose input: Stream
Stream Type: Transport Stream over TCP
Port: 6504 (this is the default port. It will be different if you change your camera settings.)
Hit Okay.

You should have an RTSP stream from your camera now.

Thanks for the reply michaelholt. From the research I've done, the Pro HD cameras and the 4k streaming cameras are configured the same way using the same protocols. So it should be the same as your camera. I've got the camera and laptop setup on the same network, but for the life of me i cannot get the stream ingested into vmix. Using your configuration, what did you set as the streaming protocol in the camera? RTSP or UDP? I'm unable to get vmix to recognize either.

Someone recently pointed out that vmix just released a new feature in the changelog to add a VLC plugin. I've never used VLC before, but I downloaded the plugin, as well as the stand alone VLC program. Using the RTSP protocol in the camera, I'm able to ingest the signal into VLC by entering the url: rtsp://<camipaddress>:554/stream. But when I try to use the same URL in Vmix Stream using VLC input, it creates the input, but the screen is solid black with no video or audio coming through.

Did you try the most recent build of vmix (19.0.0.50)? It has some fixes for the new stream feature.

thanks for the reply! Yes, I installed 19.0.0.50 and installed the VLC plugin. Still no luck in vMix, but the stream looks perfect in VLC.

It's most likely a bad combination of codec settings or resolution in the camera.
If it works in VLC, just give us here what's reported in VLC for codec information

Thanks DWAM. I'm new to VLC so I'm not sure what you mean by the VLC codec or where I would find it. VLC looks very minimalistic and only has one menu button I can see in the interface. By codec do you mean, what my settings are in the camera? ie. RTSP password 0000 - 1080 60i 5.0M - In VLC I'm entering rtsp://192.168.0.5:554/stream and it works perfectly with very little latency over my 5mbs upload home wifi.

I'll try to attach what I'm seeing in VLC.

I was referring to the real VLC software for computers, not the mobile version

I thought this was the version for computers. do you have a link for the correct version?

UPDATE: I found and downloaded the correct version of VLC. It's still not working in vMix.

This is what I see for codec info in VLC and what I see in vMix (master frame rate is the same 1080 29.97)

I FIGURED IT OUT! I found an article with some info that helped. I changed the URL to include the username and password and it works! Thanks for everyone's help!
