Has anyone tried the Echo Express SE I - Thunderbolt 3 Edition?
If you have used it what did you put in it?
http://www.sonnettech.co...t/echoexpressse1tb3.html

I am interested in using BMD products in it.

Also since it is THunderbolt 3 and has a loop through I wonder if you could use 2 of them simultaneously in the real world.
On paper everything works amazing and vaporware is the best software and hardware I have ever used in my imagination, heheh.

Thanks everyone.

I have a 2 slot TB2 model with an older 4 channel Magewell SDI capture card and a Osprey 460 4 channel SD capture card. I also have a BM Mini Monitor and Mini Recorder. In my TB1 laptop, the loop through doesn't work with the BM Mini's, but in my newer TB3 laptop, the loop through feature does work.

Rich, I just got one of these earlier this week and loaded it with a Blackmagic Decklink Duo 2 card. Once you set up the BM card properly through the Desktop Video Setup software, it works great! I also have the BM UltraStudio recorder that I daisy-chained through the Sonnet box and it too works perfectly. Add a few Magewell USB 3.0 dongles and I can get 7 HD cameras into my laptop. Pretty cool stuff!

HELP

Off topic .. sorry.

I bought this product.
But it's not working.

Machine:

Asus ROG GL-752VW
I7 - 6700, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10
USB Type-C connection.

BM Intensity Pro and BM DeckLink Mini Recorder

The operating system recognizes Echo Express SE I T3, but I do not recognize the card in vain.

Bios updated

Windows indicates that port speed is not enough for the device to work.
Where can the error be.

Thank you for your help and ideas

Gabor

Hi Gabor

are you sure your Asus is TB3 compatible? Not all Asus ROG GL-752VW models support TB3...

Do you see a thunder logo next to the USB Type-C connector?

It seems your ROG does not support Thunderbolt. Don't you have another plug elsewhere like this one (where you can see the TB logo aswell) ?

We are using the ROG Strix GL502VM (new Sapphire reference laptop). It doesn't sport a thunderbolt icon on the chassis, and I was getting ready to return until I tested it out with a Sonnet Echo Express SE I TB3. Turns out that it does indeed have TB3 even though the thunderbolt icon is missing.

The device is visible in device manager.
The BM card is in the device.
Windows provides the following message:

Set up a faster USB connection

Support replied!
I am very sad!
Quote:

Hello Gabor,
Unfortunately that configuration will never work.
Although the USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 ports look absolutely identical, expansion systems like Sonnet’s SEL with only work with Thunderbolt 3 ports.
It is additionally confusing because Intel will often refer to a Thunderbolt 3 port as a “USB - C” connection.
But in the case of your unit, its “USB-C” connection is a “USB-3.1” interface, and not a “Thunderbolt 3” interface that the Sonnet SEL and BlackMagic cards require.
I apologize for this, but in the effort to create “a single interface standard” for the connection, there is still the issue that the actual interface (USB 3.1 vs Thunderbolt 3) still exists.

Niemi,

Thank you, but there is no other connection to the machine.

@Gyapi

Niemi said that for him TB3 works on USB 3.1 Type C connector even if there is no thunderbolt logo next to the plug.

However, this TB3 situation is very confusing since it uses the same port type as USB 3.1. It's really difficult to know what we're buying.
Manufacturers are not very clear, sellers even less and in the end it's like a lottery.

With some models being TB3 compatible on USB 3.1, others having USB 3.1 but TB over Display Port, others having USB 3.1 and DP but no TB, it's really a mess. And last but not least, some models being country specific with the same name but not the same specs !

Buying TB3 is a nightmare!

Perhaps this decision by Intel will help alleviate the confusion
