Latency and stutter in NDI PPT capture

Hello, I'm using NDI to connect a laptop to VMix for a PPT capture (desktop capture on laptop). The PCs are both windows (vMix on 8.1 and Laptop PPT on 10) and connected directly with an Ethernet cable (1Gb) I can see NDI source on vMix to refresh the signal in vMix; for example it happens that presenter go to next slide and the NDI input in vMix refresh after couple of seconds.. It's not constant, sometime the communication is very fast and sometime it takes a lot
Any suggestion?
PS With vMix 16 on same PCs and the old capture system was perfect
Thank you
Stefano

Hi Stefano
make sure your ethernet connexion is really 1 gigabit. Using a bad cable can lower transmissions, you need CAT5e at least.
Also make sure to deactivate Wifi on the PPT laptop so that it doesn't get 2 IP addresses.
You can also try to use NDI ScanConverter instead of vMix Desktop Capture to see if it produces the same effect. As the case may be, the problem is certainly in network setup somewhere...

This may be related to the graphics card, you can disable this in vMix Desktop Capture Settings by unticking Use GPU Acceleration.

I found that the problem is related to fps settings. It must match the frame rate of the vMix project. If I have a 25p vMix project the desktop capture must be at 25, if it's higher (even 50) there will be stutters, if it match everything is perfect.
Thank you
Stefano

Hello, I seem to have run into this issue with the latest versions.
NDI input in vMix appears to miss randomly Powerpoint slide changes. The problem disappears if I change the slide transition to fade. Also, if the slide change is not updated in vMix, it updates immediately if I move the mouse pointer.
It looks like the vMix end is not updating perfectly. My setup is as follows
I'm running a 2011 Macbook Air with Desktop Capture with simple Powerpoint slides. My vMix machine is connected to the same network via a gigabit router.
In the same network, I have a Macbook Pro via wifi, running Sienna NDI Monitor. NDI monitor never misses the updates when vMix does.
OSX Desktop Capture does not show any options for frame rate in order to sync it better with vMix.
Any help would be highly appreciated, as there is a webcast tomorrow that obviously would benefit from a working NDI capture solution for the presentation.

DWAM wrote:Don't use Wifi for NDI capture To clarify, both the machine running Powerpoint with Desktop Capture as well as vMix PC are connected with a gigabit router. Macbook Pro with NDI monitor app for diagnosing is connected via wifi in the same lan, and that is the only NDI receiver that works as expected without missing slide changes intermittently. I have tried low bandwidth mode in vMix and NDI monitor, but it has no effect on the outcome.

Thanks for the tip, I have to try that next time. Only it's a bit strange that other NDI tools would work better with vMix than its own Desktop Capture, if with certain set of computers we have Desktop Capture -> NDI Monitor: OK Scan Converter -> vMix: OK Scan Converter -> NDI Monitor: OK Desktop Capture -> vMix: NOT OK ;)
