I've been digging around online both written and in youtube for alternate ideas on how to switch the screen in virtual set.

Say I have 5 screens that I want to display in a mock TV behind the talent. The way I've been doing this is to create 5 virtual inputs from the original virtual set. Then I have to change the screen setting via setup. I can then select the virtual virtual set input in and transition it when it's time for the picture to change.

This works great, but it takes up a lot of space on the screen, the screen I'm working from.

I've tried creating a "List" but for images it just cycles through them automatically.

Playlist doesn't show up as an input I can use in the virtual set.

Anything I use must be manually controlled since the talent may read faster or slower etc... I can't just have a timed screen switch.

Oh and I have tried assigning inputs to the color buttons, doesn't change the setup time, but puts fewer inputs on the screen. It was too slow to load the various color groups, but now that I have a new video card I may try it again.

It would be nice to be able to have a list of images and videos that I could manually cycle through in the virtual set.

It requires a second PC but I think that a good solution is to create a new NDI input coming from second PC and, as screen input in virtual set, you set this NDI input. You can create a playlist with images or videos you need in VLC in the second PC and managing these you have in the screen what is selected.

You can do this also with just one PC but it's a little uncomfotable.

Hi

the easiest solution is to use a multiview input for your screen. This way you can can easily switch inputs inside this multiview with shortcuts. To achieve this, use the SetMultiviewOverlay command.

When building a virtual set out of multiview inputs the possibilities are endless.

As a reference, you can watch this demo video I did, using a single virtualset input in which I sometimes have 7 or 8 layers:

@ muckleroy

Guillaume is being somewhat modest here as he has made quite a few excellent demonstrations on similar case use scenarios of "Switching" within the Multiview feature of vMix.
I highly recommend you look through some of his videos and overviews of both his use of the Akai APC Mini controller and the vMix UTC.

But as with all things vMix, there are many ways to accomplish your specific task at hand and I believe you are completely "On Side" with the approach you have taken.
The biggest issue with your particular scenario is if you are rotating through and mixing both static images and videos on your virtual screen.
For this, I would do exactly as you have done, but only use 2 Virtual Inputs, one for videos and one for images.
Instead of using individual Inputs for all of the elements, I would use the "List" Input for videos and the "Photos" Input for images.
The "List" can be accessed on the TAB next to the Audio Mixer, by double clicking on the desired video it will display in the Input.
Likewise, the "Photos" Input can be accessed by right clicking the Input and accessing the "SlideSHow Settings". If you set the "Transition" to "0" Seconds the Slides wont auto change, but rather, you can simply click on the slide you want when you want.
All-in-all, it's pretty much exactly what you are asking for, only it involves two different windows instead of one.
Hope that helps some.

The solution indicated by Guillaume is good. I made a video for a good alternative.

I'm sorry if the software you see is in Italian language but I think that everything is clear.

Here's a good background generator for your news set, it can texture map Directx sources, video cards, realtime too !
