Hi All,

I have Panasonic camera that puts out 4K from a micro HDMI port. I had a 10m micro HDMI to full size HDMI cable which worked fine until yesterday when it failed.

Need to replace it, hopefully with something 25M long, but I'm not sure of the best way to do it. I've looked at active cables but I'm not sure thay would work plugged in to a micro HDMI to full size HDMI adaptor at the source end. Would the camera provide the power needed for the active cable?

HDMI is very risky above 15m, especially for 4K. Btw you are very unlikely to find 25m long HDMI cables.

If you really need 4K transport, I recommend HDMI over Fiber.
Another option is to use HDMI to 6G-SDI converters. You can find different models at BMD for example.

Another option to look at which may be less expensive is getting an HDMI balun. I've used many that require no power (though I don't know about 4k with no power). I prefer this method because cat5e/cat6 cable is cheap compared to sdi and more flexible. As I was saying, I know there are 4k models, but don't know about passive power and 4k.

Look on amazon/ebay/monoprice for HDMI balun or HDMI to Ethernet and you'll find a bunch at a great price.

Thanks guys, I reckon I'll go for HDMI over ethernet.

Would one of these with an adaptor really be no good?

FYI, HDMI over ethernet won't transport uncompressed signal. It doesn't for FullHD, so obviously not for 4K.

I have an active 30 meter hdmi 1.4 cable, works well with 4k, no issues at all. I think we bought it at amazon.
