I am considering doing a major streaming event and I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to "link" multiple vMix Systems into our production trailer on location. I'll have one vMix system in a media center at the sports venue. It will have access to either wired internet or a hotspot. The main production hub will be our mobile trailaer which will be outside the venue several miles away. I will only have hotspot 4G internet access there. The networks are not the same, so NDI doesn't seem to be an option. I want to be able to stream from the vMix system at the venue to our trailer for injest into the main vMix Production system. Is vMix Call the best option or is there some other type of stream I can set up to make this work such as an RTMP point-to-point stream. Thanks for your help.

Hi Jim

such workflows require rock solid internet connections. I wouldn't dare to do that with Wifi hotspots or 4G. I would use Fiber. It requires special agreements but can easily transport FullHD/4K over miles.
If you want to stick to low quality solutions, you can install an RTMP server in your van and stream to it from the venue but this requires a public IP address for your van. I don't think you can do that over 4G.
The easiest solution is to use a streaming platform in between. For example you stream to YouTube from the venue and get this stream in your van to re-stream.

Jim,
In my humble view a Teradek Cube would be a decent option given your situation. You probably don't need a decoder as vMix can take care of that depending on which streaming method you will use (somewhat limited selection depending on if you have a public ip address or not and port forwarding capabilities at your trailer end).

Jim, we use for 4G connection here in Switzerland a VPN bonding hub from the company Viprinet (https://www.viprinet.com/en) It bond up to 6 4G signals to one line. The big advantage is, you can get an own IP everywhere you are on the world. But it is not cheap and you need a really good reseller who can configure this box to your wishes with QoS etc. Maybe in the US are also other companies with similar products.

You need to know also the stability of your 4G network. We have here in Switzerland 3 providers who are +- all the same. But on crowded locations we have every time only one provider who have a very stable connection. The others are also quite good, but they have huge up- and downturns. I know the 4G network here and I can deal with it when we have events, but I prefer always a stable internet connection or fiber.

On this shop, you can get really good antennas: https://www.telcoantennas.com.au

A lead: Don't unplug the power of the 4G router when it is connected. When you turn it on, you dial in the antenna. Do it one day before or as early as possible. It is bad when you need to dial in again when you are on a crowded location.
