RTMP streams establish connection the first time only.

Hi. I'm a new vmix user. I'm a Motorsports broadcaster and our source feeds are all rtmp or rtsp and we usually have several running all the time during an event. When using RTMP to connect to our source streams, I have no problem connecting once, but since it's not uncommon for our streams to be severed and then reconnect during a race, i'm testing this by stopping the stream on my devices and restarting those streams. My vmix sources never reconnect. I've tried right clicking on the source and selecting reset but no luck. I've tried rebooting the computer, and restarting the software. This happens at my work studio and my home studio with a different PC and network even switching everything to a new more powerful PC. Still I have the same condition. SO long as I maintain the streams I'm fine. Sometimes the source has a red Media Playback Error. If I click on that source window and right click and click reset, that bar will go away if I have restarted the stream from my device but then I still have no image and no audio on that source. Occasionally if I delete the source and rebuild it, I may get connected again. What am I doing wrong here?

Unfortunately, You're doing all well. I think it's vMix bug. I asked vMixers about it lately, but no one answer: "And second, also important - when stream stops , on sender side, vMix gives information - stream error. But when transfer is active again vMix no reloads stream, I have to back to gear, change input and manually reload it. And I have no information, that stream is active again. Very difficult operation." I have no problem with it in Livestream Studio.

I'm also seeing the vMix software crashing on both PC's during these reconnection attempts. Of course this terminates the broadcast as well, making the software completely unusable for us. We need a solution.

I think that I found solution. Today I made my own rtmp server, on virtual linux machine, nginx. After all I connected two streams from Teradek Vidiu by lane, and vMix connects every time itself. With no connecting problems. I think mistake is on server side. But, I found one very big disadvantage in my favourite vMix :( Quality of video from rtmp input in vMix is much , much worse than the same on VLC or Livestream Studio. Image is blurred, and moving is no smooth. I am very disapoited with this because I spend much time making this server, programming APC mini and the most it burned out my hope to start using vMix only in my streamings. RTMP inputs are important because we are making streamings from big marathons. Sorrow.

That's strange. I have zero issues with feed quality even from an older ipod and ipad. This sounds like a settings issue. How many fps are you getting?

I used 1280/720 25fps 3Mb/s. Image is worse comparing to simultaneously watched on VLC. On the same machine in this same time, or one after one.

Maybe there is some video smoothing function on when using VLC, like in the old days with flashplayers with flashvars.highQualityTreshold to smooth out the compression artifacts when upscaling. I just tested streaming RTMP from one system to another trough our NGINX server, and it works fine on our W7 machine. With enough bandwidth, It looks really close to the original. On the W10 machine in my office, I see data being downloaded, but no video, no audio. Sometimes only a single frame when adding the input, but mostly just nothing.

RTMP is not a good protocol for diffusion to players. It is mostly useful for transmission up to the server but such protocols like DASH, HLS or MSS are to be priviledged from server to end-user players.

I think that problem is in my server. And exactly in nginx.config. I will rebuild it in a days. It would help.
