Yes the box is mine too.... hardest part is soldering the multi connector for Sony: so tinny!

I too have bescor controls and lanc on the same ethernet cable, so 75m/250 feet for both is my limit unfortunately.
The problem in my setup is I need USB to Ethernet adaptors. Cheap models allow up to 35/40m, the best I found so far goes to 75m.

Yes LANC over 2.5 jacks is much easier to weld I guess ! ;o)

I use Canon with 2.5 jacks for lanc and when I use Sony cams/dslr I switch to Wifi to control zoom

Do you extend the USB or CAT-5? Or USB over CAT-5 ?

I use Cat-5 because its convenient... out of my controler 4 wires for PWM/Bescor and 2 wires for LANC.. i got 2 free wires for future options...

Now i understand your setup.... USB over CAT-5....

I may push my project as open hardware... i already have some extra PCBs if any interested...
i like to find a Arduino coder.... it's my biggest flaw, i did copy/paste a few projects i found over internet and it works, but i like to push the project and dont want to learn any more programming....

Spino who took part in this discussion seems to be an Arduino specialist. He's building an external switching control board with arduinos at the moment. You should talk together.

That was my starting point for Bescor control http://protechy.com/, i did the nunchuck version as described works great...
basicly Bescor original controller simply variate voltage for speed control... very bad for low speed!
The trick in protechy concept is to keep same voltage but PWM it....

On top of it.... i2c OLED/keypad/joystick calibration

Lot of fun for a non programmer like me!


i should cleanup my code and share it.... opensource software and open hardware.... just need some serious documentation on my part!

Yes I had already visited this protechy website, but long before I started to play with arduinos, so I forgot about it!
Not sure I will give it a try anyway, this seems to be far beyond my skills and I'll be busy on productions soon until the end of the year (hopefully).

Guy, maybe that's why you have noise, because I never felt like Bescor heads were noisy

it's using PWM speedcontrollers , just on a higher base voltage (9v) level than the Bescor normally uses to achieve a higher panning speed
It's mechanical noise when at full speed , lower speed is no issue at all (typ of noticale if you know about it,or picked up by camera mic )
As mentioned before the motors are pretty weak , to fast and the constact strips bend over

I think that it's a good point to start for wireless control of Bescor.

Not a really Arduino specialist. For my project I made some improvements of codes I found in Internet. By the way, the codes for my next controller are ready and they work. There will be two Arduinos Mega (one for buttons and potentiometers and the second one for activators to light the leds under buttons and tally lights). stay tuned :-)

My opinion about this build...:

i wont recommend using (Quote from his youtube)cheap eBENK LANC remote for zoom as he does, i would make my own LANC with arduino... you keep more control when you can play with code...

Also i am not a fan of wireless devices, often i works in very crowded places and some theaters are very strict on wireless devices usage to not interfere with their wireless microphones....
Who's gonna be blamed first if any interference problems?
Who will be forced to shut down his system?

Anyway i use SDI cables to cameras... if you can run a wire instead of wireless... go wired!

it's my humble opinion... still a very nice overall setup! just not for me....

Same for me, I try to keep out of wireless as much as possible...

@Spino, you can check for "camranger" for wireless controlling Bescor heads. Don't know if based on Arduinos, but it already exists...

Resurrecting this tread in 2022!! I'm currently working on a LANC controller with Arduino and for my x70. @daniel514, as I'm sure you found out, the x70 has the Sony Multiport rather than standard 2.5mm LANC jack. I'm curious how you determined the pinouts for the Multiport to LANC? As I understand it, LANC uses RS232. Did you have to do anything special to switch logic from 3.3V to 5V on the Arduino communications side? Did you have to do anything special with the LANC Select pin as I'm seeing on some DIY websites?
