I output a 1080i50 signal over sdi to a bm decklink duo 2 card.

I notice the card will automatically convert this to a progressive psf format. I can then input this as 25p in vmix. but I can also chose 50i but vmix will not blend it to progressive, since it already is semi progressive (Psf means progressive segmented file a semi progressive interlaced intermediate format...)

Anybody any thoughts on this. there is no method to set the card to just accept interlaced and let vmix handle the de interlacing...

just a niti gritti thing but I just like to be in full controle and determine exactly what will happen to what input etc.

Hi Stefan,

I think this became the default behaviour with newer BMD drivers. With older versions we had the choice between Interlaced, Psf or Progressive.

Did you try to force Interlaced input in vMix?

yes, but vmix will ignore it and see it as a progressive input. no error messga or black screen though. the standard behaviour when you input a 50i input as progressive or the other way around.

I will now input the 50i input as 25p but this is still something to keep an eye on because maybe not all 50i inputs are created equal....

Hi,

I can confirm the Decklink cards do not deinterlace video at all. The psf checkbox in the Blackmagic control panel is to do with output only.
(So you can send a 25p signal out to devices that only support 50i for example)

In vMix if you select 50i, then vMix will deinterlace this if the main frame rate is 25p, or keep it as is if the main frame rate is 50i as well.

So if you untick the interlaced checkbox when adding the input in vMix, and don't see the typical interlaced lines when panning the camera, then the camera
is actually sending PsF over 50i and not the full interlaced video.
Also any camera set to a 1/25 shutter will also look like PsF video.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Martin
