I have a shuttle pro 2 that is configured to work for replays and it will work perfectly no matter which window happens to be open on my screen.
I also have an X-key button module that I would like to also only work on vmix to change things like preview cut etc But if I flip screens to check something quickly. Or have a browser minimised in the corner the x-keys will not work on vmix like the shuttle controller does. Does anyone know how to set up the X keys so that this can happen correctly? I have altered using the software macro that the buttons should only work in Vmix (so not global) but still does not work. Any suggestions appreciated

@ mark
My understanding was that the supported X-Keys control surfaces worked like MIDI devices and Web Controller screens, that is, always functional for vMix regardless of which "window" is active on the PC... Which X-Keys model do you have? This would be a major disappointment if all X-Keys surfaces are no better than using keyboard "Shortcuts". Can anyone confirm?

It is the small Xk-16 (line f buttons) and yes I thought it should show up as a midi device but to date it has not. X-keys did get back to me and confirmed it has to be loaded via Vmix to work correctly no matter what window is open. Will keep you posted as that is what I am trying to fix now

In vMix when you go to Add ShortCut, click Find, then press a key on the Xk-16, what is displayed?
On the Xk-16 what position is the programming switch in?

I have tried plugging it in before firing up vmix and after and with the switch in both positions. In settings trying to add a midi device it does not show up no matter which way it appears to be plugged in.

On the Xk-16 what position is the programming switch in? clicking find and pressing a key gets no response. I have tried the switch in both positions turning off the computer each time to switch it

Are you able to use the Xk-16 with any other program?
What happens in your tests with your Shuttle Pro 2 not connected?
This is a new unit, correct?

It sounds to me that you installed the macroworks software you got with it, which you should not.
Uninstall everything from P.I. engineering, only thing you might want is the x-keys basic setup tool, nothing else. Delete the shortcuts you made for the x-keys. Reboot your system and start vMix with the x-keys connected. It should work out of the box and after adding shortcuts for it, it should keep working when vMix is not the active application.

OK for those out there that might like to know It turns out I was sent a KVM version of this 16 key. So although it will work if the right screen is visible it will not work if vmix is hidden. So make sure you get the standard x-keys not the KVM version. Mine is going back now to be exchanged so should work once I get it

Mine is going back now to be exchanged so should work once I get it That would explain it. The KVM version only sends USB keyboard messages. It's dumbed down so KVMs can handle it. Sorry to hear about the trouble. We try to make it clear that the KVM version is for special circumstances, but the message isn't always as prominent as it could be. Sorry for your inconvenience. >Dan from P.I.

OK to finalise this for other people that may hit the same wall I did with getting the wrong x-keys. X-keys have a program that they kindly sent me that re programmes the x-keys to work as a standard set. So problems solved
thanks X-keys they are working fine now
