Hi All,

I would like to know if it's possible to encode to an RTMP server with Monaural audio in vMix 17 via FFMPEG?

Is there any way to configure the encoder and/or create a profile preset to be able to encode:
H264 480p 1mbps AAC 160kbps MONO
(Aiming for Total 1.160Mbps CBR, not VBR)

Some video files, mainly with interviews either have the audio only on CH1 and CH2 has no audio at all OR CH1 has the audio of only the interviewer's microphone and CH2 only the audio of the interviewee. I would rather avoid re-compressing the already compressed video file to downmix the audio program in one channel, but I rather avoid if vMix can encode the audio output in MONO.

I don't need stereo at all.

Thanks for any suggestions.

@ greektv

Have you tried adjusting the settings in the "Audio Mixer" for each video?
I don't think there is a way to do it on the "Master Audio" within vMix, but each individual Input with Audio can combine or Mix L & R into one channel (Audio Mixer -> cog wheel of desired Audio Input -> Channel Mixer).

Hope that is what you want.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try your suggestion as a quick fix.
But I was hoping to be able to output a MONO audio the encoder level.
For monaural audio sources it would be more efficient to encode 160kbps on 1 channel, than making a mono source 2 channels and encode it as "stereo".
Anyway, I hope in a future version on vMix to be able to have Mono AAC audio encoding. I know the AAC spec and FFMPEG supports mono audio.
Thanks again!

What video format do you use to record your interviews? Do you use them without any editing?

The productions I make myself are recorded in 48kHz PCM stereo in the camera. At the Editing the audio is downmixed to mono. Then Encoded in 10Mbps Standard Definition NTSC MPEG2-PS file with 1 mono audio channel at 320kbps. But that's not the issue.
The issue I have is with external productions. A quick fix is to do what IceStream suggested, which I did.

Anyway, I hope in a future version of vMix to be able to encode a 1-channel Mono AAC transmission output.

I asked because if you are editing and rendering the interview video to use in vMix, which you are, then perhaps you should render the audio in a consistent way on all your interviews (all CH1, or dual mono). That could make what IceStream suggested easier.

What works best for you is what you should do.

I'd also like to be able to encode my streaming in mono, and there doesn't seem to be a way to do that in vmix.
