A friend has downloaded vMix on a brand new machine... but for some reason it installs as vMix Basic.

Any ideas why?

Maybe it's just been a long time since I've done this... but evidently it only gives the 60 day demo version when you go into Settings > About and fill in an email address to request the 60 day demo.

Is this the way it's always worked, or was this a recent change?

What happened when your friend put in his email address?

An e-mail address can only be used for one trial period. After that, that e-mail address can not be used to test on another PC.

The odd thing is that he said when he downloaded it on the new PC, it did not ask him for his email address. He thought that odd.
Besides, he first downloaded it only two weeks ago, so even if the program had somehow gleaned his address he was still well within the 60 day trial period.
In his case, it didn't matter, as he was buying the license anyway, so he did so while we were working remotely last night.
It was very odd however, to watch him download and install vMix on the machine and have it go directly into Basic mode, with no indication why it had done so.

Hi Alan,

The only way it can start in Basic mode is if it was activated on that PC with an email at some point in the past.
Maybe they forgot about activating it with an older version or someone else who uses the PC had already installed it in the past.

Regards,

Martin

Martin,

This is a brand new out of the box MSI gaming laptop. He downloaded mix from the website, installed it and it went directly into Basic mode.

I watched as he uninstalled vmix completelty, downloaded a fresh copy installed it and it displayed "Basic 18.0.0.61" in the title bar, and only permitted low resolution inputs.

Only when going to the About box did it give him the opportunity to enter an email for a trial.
He decided to simply buy a Basic HD license instead of doing a trial on this new machine.

So, both he and I were surprised by this behavior, and thought it prudent to report it to you.
