Being able to select between video player modules as source would be great. This is a big request from my sports casters when playing back instant replays they want to have instant replay transition also known as a stinger to lead in to the replay it self. Also in general I get asked often if we can have 3D transitions. I think this would be possible if a short video or sequence of frames (30 t0 120) could played on top of a dissolve (That's the way BM ATEM gets the job done). If we are using a AVI or MOV with alpha then we could also embed audio which would be huge.

avtake CUT-FOUR HD he has done about animation transsition. I HAVE BM-ATEM. BM-ATEM CANO,T WORK AS transsition. JUST LIVE ANIMATION ONLY ( LIKE LOGO ). BUT, CUT-FOUR HD YOU CAN PLAY SEQUENCE FILES TO transsition.Supports up to six live inputs (3.7 version)
http://www.avtake.com/cutfourhd.asp
- Transition animation FX feature added. See details from here.

ONE MORE question VMIX CAN WORK WITH BM - ATEM?

THANKU.

I am very aware of Cutfour, It's not a bad program but lacks many features seen in VMix. Also setting up the animated transition is easy but you must load the sequence in to a particular location and you can not load multiple animated transitions. Don't get me wrong, I think Cutfour is a good program just limited in features that are in demand such as virtual sets, only plays AVI files, only works with BlackMagic cards, only has one overlay channel. If all you need is a simple switcher and don't mind paying more then it's a fine program.
As for the BM ATEM it does have animated transitions, they are called Stingers. But, here again you are limited to a buffer size and the one thing I hate about this feature is it takes for ever for the targa sequences to load in to the buffer. I will say this about the ATEM, If you are doing live programs and need very low latency to output for IMAG then ATEM is the way to go.

If we could take the best of all the software based switchers and put them in to one then we would have our dream program.
For right now VMix comes the closes for my money.

A feature like this is being considered for vMix, but I have no estimate on when it will be available at this stage.

In the meantime, there was some discussion below on how to do something similar using shortcuts:

I do instant replays + stingers with vMix. Works great. I created an AVI logo sting that fullscreens at 50 frames into the animation then fades. I use autohotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) to trigger shortcuts in order:

1) run my stinger as a fullscreen overlay (custom keyboard shortcut)
2) wait 1666ms (50 frames @30fps)
3) cut to delay input
4) wait 1000ms
5) deactivate stinger overlay (custom keyboard shortcut, no visible effect, just free up the overlay channel)

and to return, another autohotkey script that does the reverse:

1) run my stinger as a fullscreen overlay (custom keyboard shortcut)
2) wait 1666ms (50 frames @30fps)
3) cut to main camera (key S in my case, second input)
4) wait 1000ms
5) deactivate stinger overlay (custom keyboard shortcut, no visible effect, just free up the overlay channel)

You could do the same with a logo wipe, so long as you timed the AVI overlay and the wipe correctly.

I can post the autohotkey scripts if you like.

Yes please Grimble, do post those scripts and if you have the time, a little embelishment on where and how the scripts are found/implemented
Sounds like your productions are quite snazzy

Hi,

So as mentioned, here's the little scripts I use with autohotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com). This is a free, flexible hotkey utility.

Code:
; DISPLAY REPLAY
;
numpad0::
send {Numpad2}
; transition is fullscreen at 1.666 seconds so around here is fine to transition
sleep 1666
send w
send 6
sleep 500
send {numpad1}
return

; RETURN TO MAIN
;
numpadEnter::
send {Numpad2}
sleep 1666
send q
send 6
sleep 500
send {Numpad1}
return

The format is described in the autohotkey documentation on their site, but you can see the first command is bound to numpad0. It first hits numpad2, which I have set to play my transition animation on overlay 4. it then sets the preview to the 2nd input and cuts to it. it then hits numpad1, which clears overlay 4.

The return macro is the same, except it goes to input 1 and is bound to the Enter key on the numpad. I figured this key was easier to hit during a live event, so is best for a "return to main" key.

My transition overlay uses the lagarith lossless codec with an alpha channel.

I've done a quick demo with my webcam here - http://www.twitch.tv/grimblenz/c/1840874 . Somehow I didn't get the sound, but you get the idea. My apologies for the quality, but my broadcasting is done with computer games, so I don't have much in the way of actual cameras. :)

Hi All,

I have put into the Overlay Settings in vMix 9 an option called "Stinger Cut Point" which allows you to set in milliseconds
when the source behind the overlay will cut to preview.

So to activate a stinger you would first set the instant replay (or whatever) to preview then click the 1,2,3,4 overlay buttons for the
input you want as the overlay, or create a shortcut to do both.

I'm also looking into an option to convert a series of images into a video clip automatically, though you could just use a video editor
to convert these into a transparent AVI or MOV file anyway.

Anything i'm missing here?

Regards,

Martin
