Hi, I have an IPTV system (Mediastar Evolution) and I am able to stream direct to VLC via the multicast address on: udp://@239.192.x.x:1234. Is there any way of taking this stream as an input on vMix direct. As it stands I have to transcode this stream via VLC and send it again over RTSP for vMix to be able to get the stream but it's a little temperamental. The encoder does show that it's also sending via RTSP but vMix just comes up with an error. Please see picture for encoder stream settings... Many thanks for looking Regards jimmyping attached the following image(s): mediastar encoder stream settings.PNG (56kb) downloaded 12 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. When you create a stream input with the rtsp settings above what is the error message you are getting?

Hi!
vMix doesn't support Multicast UDP streams ingest.
RTSP seems to be your only option. You have to make sure your encoder is really streaming to RTSP. I don't know this particular model but maybe you can select which protocols to use. Try to deactivate Multicast over UDP if you don't need it for example.
Also make sure your firewall on vMix host accepts RTSP.
Are the encoder and vMix on the same network, I mean plugged to the same physical switch? No router in between?
If it still doesn't work, you can try to RTSP from VLC or FFMPEG to check if vMix accepts it. This works for me so it should for you, and this can give you more information concerning which direction to look for.

Many thank DWAM,
I will try what you have suggested regards turning off multicast. Also will test using VLC.
Many thanks again.

If your encoder supports UDP Unicast, you can try. I had successful experiments from Extron or Ateme Kyrion professional broadcast contribution encoders.
As Ask indicated before, vMix documentation shows you supported protocols for ingest.

If you CAN play the RTSP stream with VLC on your vMix computer then :
- you may have a problem with the codecs used on the origin encoder (but I don't believe this : it wouldn't say "no session") or the way the stream is presented to vMix for negociation,
- you might need to try several stream address, like rtsp://10.0.72.1/ only or rtsp://10.0.72.1/1 or adding final / (Check your hardware encoder forum, FAQ, etc...)
- in the end you still have the option to use VLC as an NDI source for vMix (then you need NDI plugin for VLC). This would prevent you from transcoding and re-stream manually. Besides the final quality would be much better.

Is it this model? http://www.cabletime.com...ediastar/hd-encoder-785/Could you copy/paste the SDP file content? Can you play the stream by requesting this file in VLC or your browser? (I think it's for HLS protocol but not sure) Also maybe try to play the RTSP stream with FFMPEG which reports more details about the negociation phase

RTSP normally uses port 554. You can also check it that is blocked somewhere in your network.

Jimmy,
I'd be curious to know the answers to my suggestions (especially to know the negociation phase in FFMPEG and the content of this SDP file). I don't know this encoder, I'm curious...
Glad to read you could find a way to make it work... tho I'm not really surprised ;o)
Devon? Who knows? But if you come near Bordeaux for summer holidays, let me know, we don't only produce wines in here, there are local beers aswell !
Best regards Guillaume
