Scenario Computer i7 32MB Ram solid state M.2 hard drives Vmix 18 5 video streams coming in as streams RTSP 4 camera replay recording 3 cameras 1 output recording 8mb/s mpeg via ffmepg 1280 x 720 TS files
Due to intermittent nature of the filming I am doing we often loose cameras for a time (wireless) what we are finding is Vmix completely hangs whilst it goes "looking" for these video streams. Both the switching, replay and record fail each time a camera or 2 goes down.
IS there any way to set it up so by all means it keeps looking for these cameras but that the whole system does not just shut down whilst it is doing so. I initially thought it was resources but it does not appear to be the issue
Any ideas out there?
Mark

Hi Mark, I can confirm that vMix should reconnect to rtsp streams in the background, so it is certainly strange that everything is hanging. Might be best to drop us an email to info@vmix.com.au and go to Settings -> About and click Send Support Report (preferably with the preset open) so we can investigate further. Thanks, Martin vMix

Hello I can confirm this hanging during reconnect of lost RTSP streams. I work with 4 RTSP cameras (cabled), 3 instant replays, recording in 720p50/mp4 and streaming. Normally it works without a problem. One week ago, we had a cabling issue at the main camera. ?t=5147 - Main camera started flickering - vMix was responding: Match clock was running (controlled by external application through api) and I was able to switch to another camera. ?t=5179 - Main camera signal was lost, only black - vMix was hanging. All cameras were freezing, api was not responding and changing camera with xkeys keyboard was not possible. ?t=5224 - Some more freezes during main camera reconnect. - Also the match clock does not slide in as usual (because vMix was hanging?). ?t=5310 - Another freeze including match clock. Hope this information can help. Regards, Patrick

If possible, could you email us the log and xml files from the replay folder for that session. I have been running tests with rtsp disconnecting and have not been able to recreate any hanging (other than the obvious temporary freezing of the rtsp camera itself)
Thanks,
Martin vMix

This sounds very very similar to what I am getting Mark pm wrote:Hello I can confirm this hanging during reconnect of lost RTSP streams. I've just emailed you both a test version that should hopefully fix this problem. Try it out and let me know if it works.

i am having the same problem with vmix17, still haven't tried 18. If I loose an rtsp camera (and having at least 7 wireless cams it can happen several times a day), recording will stop and vmix hangs for around 10 secs. This didn't happen up until the first update of v17. If the camera is imported via vlc-ndi vmix will not hang. I will try with v18 soon.

unfortunately the proble is still with us on 18.0.0.61
tried only with 1 rtsp camera and 2 video files playing in loop. The first time I only disconnected network cable from camera and waited for connection error in vmix, the video file playing and the other overlay video were still running. I reconnected the cable and the camera went back online without problems. I then removed power from the camera, and after around 5 secs, recording stopped and got error message. Video playback halted as well..

now I still have the rtsp camera unplugged, and I still have it as input in vmix giving me connectio error. Playback of video file is intermittent, it pauses video but I see audio vumeters moving. Stats show 34 source dropped, 830 render dropped and 4 queue for that video file.

Are you using replay? The bug fixes are specific to replay reconnection to rtsp cameras.
Can you confirm the camera brand and model?

no replay. Here is a video with the problem. As you can see only 1 rtsp cam and 1 video file and ticker. Camera is a Grandstream but I can't give you exact model at the moment. But in previous tests with V17 camera model was irrevelant, it happened with every camera I had (Grandstream, Vivotek, Auvidea HDMI board encoder)

Some tests from my side:
Reconnects with active instant replay session is stable now. After the reconnect of the RTSP camera, recording starts automatically again.
Without instant replay session, I see the following behaviour (which goes into direction of user "thepelell").
Disonnecting RTSP camera - camera input shows "CONNECTION ERROR" - additional video is playing - GUI is responsive
Connecting RTSP camera - camera input shows "CONNECTING" for few seconds (5s to 15s) - during this message: additional video freezes in output preview and transitions are not possible, slider below video is moving - this only occurs if Fullscreen is set to "MultiView", if Fullscreen is set to "Output" there is no freezing during "CONNECTING"

@ thepelell
Perhaps totally unrelated, but I couldn't help but notice that you were recording simultaneously. What were your recording settings and hard drive specs? I've had similar "hiccups", that to me were more hard drive related (read/write timeout sort of thing) when vMix CPU and/or GPU are dealing with matters at hand, in your case, Input signal loss while playing a video with ticker overlay and recording simultaneously.

@IceStream
Exactly the same behaviour on my system, no recording involved.

I tried the same exact configuration without recording and had the same problem. When vmix tries to reconnect the rtsp camera it hangs badly.

thepelell, you also see a difference when you're choosing "Output" in fullscreen settings? On my system, only the check mark in popup menu is relevant, it's not necessary to enable fullscreen to see that vMix is not hanging anymore.

Thanks for the reports, the MultiView being on was what I needed to track down the bug. It's to do with an obscure bug in the .NET Framework, but i'll be able to release a fix for it in the next update due out soon.

Martin vMix
