Does anyone have experience of streaming to a server on a LAN (i.e WMS) rather than to a CDN? Martin do you use such a setup for testing? Thanks in advance....

The easiest way is to setup using windows media encoder or VLC because both have built in settings for what's known as a pull and that's what you are doing. The limit here is how many individual streams you are trying to accomplish because this puts a load on the streaming system which multiplies per system that is decoding the stream.

Thanks for that. I am not really looking to use VLC rather probably WMS as we want to be able to stream to a number of different clients during a live event, but all within the LAN.

Check out "Unreal Media Server". I use it to "pull" from the WMS encoder in vMix and then rebroadcast. The Unreal Media Server application runs on a dedicated 'fast' machine that outputs to a gigabit network. Only one stream is needed from the vMix system. I have been using Unreal Media for a few years now. I believe it is still free for limited use. I think the free limit was 15 connections tops. Check them out at http://www.umediaserver.netHope this helps.

This looks interesting. I am about to free up a machine and will trial it. Many thanks. Tech specs. Other than it runs on winxp I can't find any requirements. What is your "fast" box?
