Update to my earlier posts:

My Magewell SDI to USB3.0 dongle went belly up. I understand this is a RARE event. Magewell's distributer "Mobil Video Devices" stepped up and took care of the problem immediately....no questions asked! Very unusual service. Unfortunately the replacement was misplaced in transit.

In the mean time, I borrowed a INOGENI dongle. Costs more upfront but works perfectly and runs cooler. I am trying to get my friend to sell it to me. The downside is he has warned me about INOGENI's service.
