HI !
Just to say that i´ve installed a vMix system on a old dual exacore xeon HP Z600 with 48 gigs of ram, and a gtx 960 with 4 gigs of ram ( CPU: 2x Intel Xeon X5670 ) i had a I7 quadcore 3.6 ghz with the same gtx 960 and 16 gigs of ram. i now can get about 3x more processing power...
very cost efective indeed.
Cheers,

@ PFBM
Are you able to document or quantify any performance improvements within vMix? I would think the major advantages would be seen with multiple NDI Input acquisitions and/or encoding for Streaming and Recording.

from 40% to 12% cpu consumption 4 hd cameras, 2 streams, recording in vc3 mxf, magewell quad hdmi capture card.
Yes ! big multicore count.... more NDI.... More Multicorder count... vmix likes multicore very much more thank Ghz. its FFmpeg use, can use all the cores you can get for it :) mine has 24 ( 12 real and 12 virtual at 3.2 ghz )
but a Z620 can get 32..... dual octocore xeon.... for 1000 euros...
Cheers,

I have a similar Dell T-7500 Workstation with dual xeon x5675 chips (24 total cores, 12 real and 12 virtual). Nothing I have thrown at it can choke the processors. These can easily be had for less than $1000 in the US.

Yess !! When i said HP.... its just a reference.... DELL and others do the same thing. 1000 euros is just a price point . Because you have to buy it without the usual nvidia quadro graphic card. and have to add a GTX card to the system. these kind of workstations, have all chipsets with 40 lanes... remember to populate all memory slots :)

Hello, Following this topic and since i have too much quirks with my X99 stream setup, i ordered a Z620 Workstation with Dual Xeon E5-2670 I'm planning on putting a Decklink Quad 2 and a Decklink Duo 2 inside for start and will do a full documentation after thoroughly testing it next week ! thanks for the idea, i'm eagerly waiting to test it !
Cheers, Valentin

put the graphic card on the last pcie 16x slot. it will cover the old pci slot that you dont need any more. this way you wont waste pcie slots.
go to the Bios and turn on all cpu turbos :) and hyperthreading ON no virtualization.... no speedstep..... no unused devices such as com ports.... windows 10 pro 64 bits cpu on background services not on programs.... use driverbooster free to get latest motherboard drivers..... Cheers,

Got the system today. Updated driver, changer some BIOS settings, but so far i can't get my quad 2 to work.
When i plug it, there is an error 31 with a PCI Bridge to PCI and i'm stuck Maybe i should check the bios, so far i only followed your advices Based on the service manual, the upper PCIe port , first one, is blocked by 2nd CPU module 2nd one is PCIE 3.0 16x Third one is PCIE 2.0 8x size but 4x bandwith, so this one is a no go for Quad 2, will try with a Duo 2 later Fourth One is PCIE 3.0 8x, i used this one for Quad 2 and it should work but so far, no luck Fifth one is PCIE 3.0 16x, the one you told me to put graphic card, but with cable management it's complicated for now, will take care of it later.
If anyone have an idea please, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you :

Workstation, a high-performance computer system that is basically designed for a single user and has advanced graphics capabilities, large storage capacity, and a powerful central processing unit. A workstation is more capable than a personal computer (PC) but is less advanced than a server (which can manage a large network of peripheral PCs or workstations and handle immense data-processing and reporting tasks). The term workstation was also sometimes ascribed to dumb terminals (i.e., those without any processing capacity) that were connected to mainframe computers. Their raw processing power allows high-end workstations to accommodate high-resolution or three-dimensional graphic interfaces, sophisticated multitask software, and advanced abilities to communicate with other computers. Workstations are used primarily to perform computationally intensive scientific and engineering tasks. They have also found favor in some complex financial and business applications. In addition, high-end workstations often serve a network of attached “client” PCs, which use resident tools and applications to access and manipulate data stored on the workstation. The chief delineation between PCs and workstations has traditionally been the latter’s advanced graphics and data-processing capabilities. But the advanced graphic interfaces and powerful microprocessors of high-end PCs can make them barely distinguishable from low-end workstations. Buying refurbished Workstation helps you save money. Buy refurbished Workstation at an affordable price.
