I know the PTZ Optics guys were researching the addition to their lineup. That was months ago and I haven't heard any new news about it.

I haven't heard anything from anyone else at this point. But I haven't dove in to NDI just yet.

I have to say I think it's unlikely that these mainstream manufacturers will introduce NDI support in their cameras any time soon, because:-
a) NDI is not the only video-over-IP solution in town which aims to provide similar high-quality/low-latency functionality.
b) NDI is under the control of one commercial organisation - NewTek - whereas those sort of manufacturers would generally rather adopt a standard that has been developed and endorsed by a multi-party consortium and/or a standards body like the NAB or EBU.

The thing is though, NDI is the only IP protocol out there at the moment that is efficient and fast enough
to work reliably on an ordinary gigabit network.

The other standards out there mostly rely on 10GE and specialised hardware for both sender and receiver, it is next to impossible
to receive one of those 10GE signals on an ordinary computer without an expensive 10GE IP capture card installed.
(Which in my opinion defeats the key reason to move to IP for video)

It's also extremely expensive to include 10GE inside a camera, so I don't see that happening any time soon.
By comparison, NDI is simple and cheap to implement and camera manufacturers could do it quite easily if they wanted to.

In the mean time, solutions like the Bird-Dog Studio will fill the gap.

I don't disagree, and I'll be very happy for my prediction to be proved wrong :)

Cameras are still more hardware than software (although that is changing). I hope we will see NDI camera's next year, but I really don't know. It just going to take time.

As far I know all modern camera's have latency, even the analog outputs are not realtime anymore.

If a NDI camera could operate without visible latency it would be very interesting for showing live situations on beamers.

If you watch some of the myriad of videos that the PTZ Optics crew do, you will see that they had just released a new range of products when NDI came into view. They were quite enthusiastic about implementing it at first, but later back-pedaled.

It requires hardware resources that their platform simply didn't have on-board. That means that it has to wait for another generation of hardware.

We're likely going to see SDI-NDI adapters before we see PTZ cameras that have a native NDI interface.

Seems silly that Camera manufacturers don't include NDI in their new models. I just think the big guys want you to buy their stuff to work with the cameras. IE: XXXX Company work flow so the customer can't go the path most practical.

If Sony for example made the camera talk NDI, it would make all their own IP Workflow stuff obsolete immediately.

Nobody wants to go first :) Once one does all will follow. Might take a small company to make some NDI Cameras. So a big company starts losing market share.

Seems to me Newtek have been offering the standard as "open". Which basically means they are confident in their product and see competition as a good thing. Sure they might have a small advantage developing the standard. Someone had to do it!

Still waiting for my Bird-Dog to arrive, it looks like the perfect bridging tool, just wish they would hurry up and start shipping.

Maybe Bird-Dog will start making cameras too, or maybe GoPro will start making NDI Editions.

It's likely someone at those big companies has an NDI pre-release camera in a lab. Waiting for the moment they can't milk any more money from the current IP systems they are flogging and the warehouse is empty of previous generation IP gear.
