After putting VMIX into real LIVE production test, and after pushing it to the max, we had one major request and some small remarks. A KEY (alpha) input routed to one of the overlay layers is a must have in an on-air production environment. Any external CG system like the free open source (CASPAR) requires a Fill and Key input for best results. The way this would work is by adding an input as usually done but with the option in the overlay panel to pick this input as a LIVE-KEY(alpha).. Martin this feature will enrich VMIX in a LIVE on-air environment and hope you will take it into consideration. Other remarks are for work flow, a right click on an already existing input container to change to any other file of the same nature is needed. Some stuttering is occurring in videos played as overlays with alpha embedded in them.
Regards, Ali

Hi,
Could you explain in a little more detail about the intended setup, i.e what hardware you have generating the key as an input and what devices you use to capture it etc. If possible, a diagram showing how you would like it all to fit together would be most helpful.
Regards,
Martin vMix

Sorry to dig this up again, but was this ever looked into further? Being able to support Key+Fill SDI Input would be a great feature for larger productions that have dedicated graphics machines. Being able to use Flash for graphics is nice in vMix but in order to use more intensive animated graphics having the graphics on the same machine as vMix just won't do. There is an obvious slow down (running an i7 3930k + GTX 780) with only 6 HD-SDI Inputs in my experience and that isn't really stable enough for a production environment.

+1 for this... I use CasparCG and it outputs a seperate Key and Fill automatically using a BlackMagic Decklink 4K extreme (then route it into a possible vmix machine via a Decklink Duo)
