I just got my Nvidia GTX 1060 and want to make sure I have all the settings set properly for vMix. Are there any tweaks that I need to do to make the framerate (1080 59.94) look as smooth as possible. For some reason my AMD R9 280 seemed to look a little better than this card currently.

Best,
Andrew

The issue is more with the smoothness of the video. the AMD R9 280 was much smoother. I just upgraded to the Nvidia card so im not sure if I need to do any tweaks in the Nvidia settings or something in vMix.

Hi Andrew!
It might be the X99 MoBo. I have more or less desired to dump my X99 Deluxe II with a GTX 980 Ti. Have had nothing but troubles with it. Including stuttering video. Martin also said in the October Fun Time Live show that there are issues with the X99. They switched over to use Z170, while still attempting to sort the X99 issues out.
Look at http://www.vmix.com/products/vmix-reference-systems.aspx.

You can go into the Nvidia control panel, go to change resolution and create a custom resolution at the bottom.
At the vertical refresh rate, you can experiment a bit. Make it a little bit lower and the result will be much smoother. It has 3 digits behind the dot, so you can get it as smooth as a hardware switcher.

Interesting enough I did not have this issue with the AMD R9 280. I am going to experiment some more an post the results. More suggestions are welcome :)

In the end I guess it's the stream/recording smoothness that matters. Even though it is of course crucial to get an as accurate monitoring as possible. Doubt changing the screens refresh rate affects the stream/recording.

A wild guess would be to try other display outputs on the graphics card.

If you have not already done so, try shifting the card to other PCIe slots.

Richard thanks for all the help. It really helps working down the list of things that can be possible issues. I remember I had some strange issues like this with Nvidia when I was using another software in the past, When I went over to AMD they all went away. So far I have tried almost everything that has been suggested. Im baffled to be honest

Is this also on the recording? Did you check this by playing a recording on another system?

We have x99 boards of our systems with the same issue of random stutters, It is now becoming a big problem, but at least we finally have some acknowledgement of the problem. With the ~20 systems, the thought of replacing the motherboard/processors with lesser versions is going to be a hard sell to the bosses, but they are getting fed up with the stuttering.

We have Nvidia in all the systems also. This is an interesting addition that it may be more of an Nvidia/X99 issue, if you say that AMD was smoother.

Hey Steve,

Sorry you are experiencing the issue. Its hard for me to troubleshoot it considering we are doing shows everyday. At the moment I have put the AMD card back in so I can get through with the week. I will most probably put the Nvidia 1060 back in over the weekend and start playing around again. Im just surprised its such a noticeable difference with the random frame rate issue and stutter.

Following this thread with interest. A customer just bought a system with an X99 board and an Nvidia GTX 1080, to run vMix. We will be testing it with eight cameras next week.

We have 2 systems that Fullscreen and Record in 1080p60 and stream in 1080p30. Each system has 2 cameras and Desktop Capture and we haven't had a lot of issue. One machine is a custom machine with ASUS Maximus Hero VI with a 760 and an i7-4770k. The thing that improved performance for us is using "Use Hardware Encoder" for both streaming and recording with FFMpeg. The other machine is a Dell Optiplex 790. Both machines do pretty well at the higher frame rate.

One issue that we had with the Custom Machine was with a setting on the ASUS BIOS. There was a setting on the PCI-E slot to run as a 1x I believe instead of 4x. This caused the capture card to not keep up with the 1080p60 bandwidth. Under the "video" tab under the statistics window, how consistent are your numbers? What is your Fullscreen resolution? Are you doing low latency capture? Do you have any video of the stuttering?

-Check BIOS Settings
-Latest BIOS/Graphics Drivers
-Latest firmware for capture cards
-Set Application Priority High
-Try switching video renderers

Neither of those systems has an x99 chipset which is the issue. I hope that we can get an x99 fix soon or I will have to trade out 6 or 7 systems. :-(

We are building all of our new/replacement systems on cheaper 170 chipsets

Hey Steve,

Did a few tests with newer drivers and it still seems to be having the same issues. I hope there is a fix coming soon

I have a Gigabyte X99 motherboard and don't seem to have these issues.

I notice a lot of people with ASUS brand X99's seem to have the problem.

Anybody else have a Gigabyte or other brand of X99 motherboard with this issue?
