Hi All,

I am just looking in to the technicalities of starting to use NDI for desktop capture and adding an IP camera.

Setting up the network is fairly straightforward but I am wondering if there is a particular type of network switch we should use? We do not intend to use it for HD video it would more than likely be an older laptop with VGA on it and possibly an IP camera for head and shoulders shots of people stood at the lectern.

If anybody has any recommendations for a reasonably priced IP camera as well that would be a great help.

Be aware the need for a certain spec processor for NDI to function with older hardware. it doesn't work on all pcs. Intel or AMD processor supporting SSE3 are a necessity.

We've had a couple 'presenters' laptops that didn't allow us to capture their screens with NDI because they weren't up to spec.

Actually it is SSSE3 that is required for NDI (yes it is 3 S's).

As for a network switch, anything that is gigabit will work. I'm using a $25 TP-Link 5 port gigabit switch myself our booth at TwitchCon to connect 5 NDI devices together. If you are looking for something higher end, I would recommend a switch that has a full speed backplane.
