Hi all... Love vMix, btw...

I have a new project where I need to record subjects in black and white.
Using the chroma key feature, the idea is to blend live actors into existing black and white video.
We plan to have an external monitor for guests and bystanders to be able to watch themselves as they will appear in the final video, so shooting in black in white will help with the illusion.

Our camera (Sony FX-7) only shoots in color, so the next idea is to drain the input color using vMix so the output shows the actors in black and white.

Does this make sense? Any ideas...????

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug,

vMix 8 is due for release soon and includes a "Saturation" option which can be used to convert video to black and white by dragging the slider all the way down.
You can test this out by trying the vMix 8 test version or waiting for the final release.

Martin

Hi Martin,
I have a tip concerning the new saturation option in combination with the chroma key effect, I added the same source twice chroma keyed it and overlayed them, used one source with the saturation to minimum added some black stretch and rotated it on Z, now I have a real time shadow under my LIVE performer.
What will sell this shot more is the ability to have X and Y rotations. (You have rotations build in the presets but with no access to tune them). On the other hand without the X and Y rotations it will be a reflection rather than a shadow. If the computer is fast enough than you can have three layers the live talent with reflection and shadow.

Please do expose the rotation controls in your position tab window this will lead to a lot of creativity.

Regards,
Ali

Updated to 8 test version. Just getting acquainted with it, but so far, excellent as usual! I have told all my broadcast friends about vMix... Hope they are buying into the future of broadcast television. Keep up the great work!

Doug,

Thanks for your support!

Ali,

You can click the "Z" next to the rotate option in Positions to switch between the X, Y and Z axis and set them individually.
I'm guessing that is what you are looking for?

By the way, great idea for implementing a shadow. I'm constantly amazed by the combination of features users come up with to achieve things I had never even considered!

Regards,

Martin
