I'm on hold with a government agency so i might just be getting dumber but i had a question for you old salts or anyone that is in the broadcasting and or live streaming production workflow business.
I understand the concept of the preview and output window but during live games or events the production\output window is always set. sure i add overlays and live text updates but what if i had an overlay that kicks in but just doesn't look right and need to move it but don't want to turn it off for a while or show the live audience i'm moving crap around? or what if since its hard to tell what overlays are on if you have 80 of them you hit the wrong one and it displays in output and takes another one away since you can't have the same overlay number in both preview and output. and if you want to relocate the overlay i can't while its in production without showing everyone i'm moving stuff around which looks sloppy or i have to turn it off and correct it in preview then turn it back on production. i know these are basic questions but i just hate having to show moving images or text or turn things off to correct them and put them on. Its a live event so i can only plan so much ahead of time.
i guess i'm just asking what you guys do? i'm new and love everything so far but i'm a one shop guy running events that i'm playing in! so i do a lot remotely and on the fly and i'm finding out this is a bad idea lol
thanks guys!

Not dumb.
To see your overlay in the Preview window, just right click the overlay number (1, 2, 3, or 4) on the overlay input you walk to see.

- Tom Hey Tom. Yeah i know that one :) i'm talking about how to make changes to output overlays while live. Example: i have my input set and it has a few inputs such as a clock and a scoreboard as multiview within that input so i don't wast overlays 1-4 I then add 4 overlays and overlay say #1 is out of place or the color or something just needs to be changed. How do you move it while not showing the world. Yes i could click on it take it away and then send it to preview but i can't send it to preview and line it up with a preview of the exact input i have then push it live right? Or and here is a real world example that just happened! so we had a power outage and i created a power outage text that was used to describe why the cameras were black but noticed the text was too big and and was cut off. if i sent that text to preview while it was still being displayed and changed it via preview it would update live regardless. so i would just have to create a new text fix it and then turn off the one i created or fix it live where everyone is seeing it. i guess what i'm trying to say is the preview only seems to be good for inputs and overlays that are not displayed in the output window so my only way of fixing anything once we start is to create a new input fix it and then push it over correct? -King

So, you want to edit/modify your Overlay as if it was live but without it being live?
Hmm. Other than taking it off and modifying it while viewing it in Preview, I'm out of ideas. Sorry. Gave it my best shot.

I guess you could "clone" the overlay input (create a virtual input), mod the new clone in preview, then swap the two. Maybe?

- Tom yeah once i found the create virtual output i'm guessing thats what it is for? well i guess it's for creating a copy and then it can be independently changed. i guess the plan is always create your overlays where there can't be any physical errors or errors that can't be addressed live without making you look like a fool :) I guess i was looking for something like a staging output opposed to a preview to see before you push and although thats what preview seems to do its more like your building the next output instead of fixing or changing it slightly. i guess i just hate how i'm using multiview because if i assign a input to multiview of my main output and need to change the text i cant change it without removing it from production which looks sloppy.,. :| thanks tom

I think I understand what is required....Right click on the overlay, and select Edit, then, make sure it is off air by clicking on 'LIVE' at the very bottom left hand corner....make your changes, then click "LIVE' again..it will instantly update It is Green when live, and Grey when not live...do it all the time...so I know

If i need to move the text that won't work correct?
