Is Magewell still the best option for capturing 4xHDMI inputs? I see YUAN has new models and I wonder which is the best option.
Does either (or any other) offer a) hardware h264 or mpeg2 compression? b) multiple streams (for using multicorder, if multicorder needs it that is).
This will be all built on an x99 system.

Personally I would stay away with an all in 1 solution. Would rather have 4 x Intensity Pro 4K or simular..
Reasoning is if your 4 input HDMI card dies, then you are completely out of luck. and having individual cards, you can still do productions.... and it is cheaper to replace a $200 card than a $1000 card...

@ Lars_G "Best" is somewhat subjective. There are certainly a number of products on the market that have fairly good track records so you may want to explore the specs of each more closely to see which one will best meet your needs and requirements at the price point you are most comfortable with. The old adage of "you get what you pay for" is always at play, but the cards listed on the supported hardware page are known to work well with vMix: http://www.vmix.com/soft.../supported-hardware.aspx@ desmar To each his own, but not everyone is able to plug in multiple cards to an already crowded motherboard. Multiple I/O's on a capture card have proven themselves to be quite reliable from the major manufacturers (I've heard of one input possibly being bad but never the entire card), so although your reasoning is OK, it's not necessarily the most practical in a lot of situations. Just my thoughts. Ice

I understand your point IceStream, the thing is yes, we can't have too many cards installed in the motherboard (4 cards is 1 too many), so I'm choosing a 4x solution... regarding capabilities, I'll check, but since I see the only know supported hardware with 4x inputs are Magewells and YUANs, my real question to people here who use these systems more frequently is: Which one is better built? tends to fail less, both while working or phisically.....

I totally agree with IceStream, multiple cards are usually not practical with most motherboards, and in some cases, slot compatibility issue may arise. I have not used the YUAN card and I have a Magewell SDI -> to USB 3.0 that I use occasionally, but my workhorse capture card is the BM Quad. I have never had an issue with it over 3 years in a system that travels quite frequently and I plan to upgrade to the BM Quad 2 soon.

I use the 4 PORT Magewell HDMI card and it works perfectly. I have not used the YUAN cards, so I don't have any input between the two. But my Magewell has been flawless along side 2 Intensity Pro Cards.

Hi, wouldn't the Black Magic Decklink Duo 2 serve your purpose? I am using this card. I bought some cheap HDMI to SDI converters off Aliexpress and connected the converters to the BMD with some SDI (video surveillance) cables (including power). Works like a charm!

I agree with no such thing as "best" as that would be different for different people.
Best for me is Magewell, I have 4x HDMI Magewell and 4x SDI Magewell cards in the same machine with an Aver Media HDMI as well. I have many usb SDI/HDMI ones as well, but not in the main rig, I use the usb 3 ones on laptops.
These are the older Magewell cards, 2+ years old cards. I had troubles with BM Equipment as earlier models don't like GoPros and 1080p60fps sources.
My conclusion Magewell is a solid choice, drivers work really well on the models that need drivers and the inbuilt scaler if worth it in my situations when I'm NOT capturing from similar cameras/sources all running the same resolutions and frame rates.
