Recording Bitrate Recommendation for YouTube

We have been using vMix to record worship services at our church for a few years now and are very happy with the product. Our videos are immediately uploaded to YouTube and we also keep a copy locally for archival purposes. I am recording at 1080p 30fps with a bitrate of 12 Mbps. I am thinking the bitrate may be a little excessive as an hour video is over 4GB! Any recommendations on what bitrate to use?

Chris,
If you are doing 1080p/30fps video, you obviously want it to look good. If 12mbps is your sweet spot, stay with it.
Is it the upload time that you object to?

- Tom The upload time itsn't the issue. Just wondering if 12Mbps is too high since I know YouTube does its own encoding. We archive the video files locally and just don't want to waste disk space for no reason. My current settings in vMix are MP4 Size 1920x1080 NTSC 30p Bit Rate: 12Mbps Audio Bit Rate 128 kbps

Chris, Here are my Stream Settings. Similar to your except 8mbps on bitrate. I am satisfied with my locally recorded video and with the YouTube version of the same file. - Tom sinc747 attached the following image(s): stream settings.PNG (59kb) downloaded 10 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. I upped mine from the default 8 because the TV stations I send to would complain about the quality. Would love to know you're getting good quality on an 8Mb setting? I use a Kona LHi card for encoding.

Here's a comparison: 12Mbps 8 Mbps I can't tell a difference in either video. Both are about the same length and the 8 Mbps mp4 is about 2 GB smaller.

Chris,
I can't tell the difference on my laptop. Maybe on a 55" TV the difference would be noticeable. But, I think you nailed it!
