Well, it happened again when my script didn't do as planned and one of my SSD's ran out of space thus making the entire 8 hour recording corrupt and useless. After a lot of research and failed attempts to fix the corruption and even a attempt to properly end the MP4 via a hex editor I stumbled across a tool that many of you guys probably knew about but maybe a few new guys didn't.

The tool is a German video repair tool called gs by Grau GmbH (www.grauonline.de) and it has not failed me yet!

Again its dumb to run out of space but my events can run long and when things don't go as planned errors happen and I hate how the file just becomes corrupt although I understand why from a technical level as i'm a developer. But just in case it happens to you this is a good tool and its about 110$. It will fix 50% of your video for free so you can make sure it works before you buy it.

Okay on to vMix and a questions:

1. Anyone know of a format that doesn't become corrupt on a error like this?
2. Is there a built in trigger for vMix that I can stop the stream properly before a disk runs out?

I do a lot of mobile jobs and I don't or can't always get the setup I need or want so just curious...

vMix checks the disk space every 5 seconds during a recording.
If it falls below 500MB free it will automatically stop the recording so that it will be completed correctly.

If you are not seeing this can you report on the recording settings used and the vMix version.

Thanks,

Martin

This makes me happy. I also posted a few days prior about the infinite loop when the disk runs out during a recording and I was able to reproduce it. I will document them when I get back home.

I tried that one and it failed. there were a few others I tried but only the above one actually fixed it. i'm sure they all have their ups and downs.
