Kane, are there restrictions on the number of installs per licence with Transmit?

I like NDI Transmit, however I think it's a bit pricey (at $195) for what it does considering the vMix availability.

NDI Transmit is likely the approach that uses the lowest possible CPU overhead for using an NDI source as if it were a webcam.
And perhaps it will be available for platforms other than windows... that would be a big plus for many users.

However, getting a Basic HD vMix license for $60, and using just one input for NDI (or up to three of them) also lets you use the NDI streams in Skype (via the vMix external), and gives all the multi camera viewing, recording, etc. functionality if desired.

If NDI Transmit were a $50 buy, I would not hesitate to paying that to remove the watermark.
However, considering that I am already licensed for vMix HD, I am not sure why a vMix user would buy a NDI Transmit license.

Am I missing something?

Kane, as I said, I rather like NDI Transmit, and I appreciate its low overhead and system tray implementation.

I am very impressed with the work NewTek has done with NDI, and I appreciate how much of a game changer you have developed.

What AlanZ says about using vMix as an alternative to NDI Transmit is correct. I did that before Transmit was released. The drawback then is that you can't use vMix for anything else, as you can only run one instance of vMix.

With the current difference in price (vMix HD vs NDI Transmit) it's a matter of if one think its worth paying extra for low overhead and simplicity.

Nice! I'll just add that for the 'reverse' of NDI Transmit, to send video from Skype (or Google Hangouts etc) back to your switcher is by using NDI Scan Converter (free). I'm guessing that vMix NDI Desktop Capture might work as well (if it supports audio).

VB Cable might be required if your sound card doesn't support audio loopback.

I would an interesting exercise to use two instances of vMix cross-linked via NDI to bring a Hangout/Skype video call into a vMix production in a fully interactive fashion, with audio in both directions.

That would split the workload across two platforms, without requiring a capture card. Historically I've done this using a capture card o take the output of the video call into vMix. I was limited as to what source could be used for the video call.

195dollars is way to high for what it is doing.
