vMix Basic SD/HD - Is a the PowerPoint input considered a "capture"?

vMix Basic HD/SD is limited to 4 Inputs.

Is a PowerPoint Input considered a "capture" and therefore count as one of the camera inputs allowed?

What does Total Inputs and Capture Inputs mean in each edition?

On the Purchase Page of our website is a table that includes a breakdown list of what each edition of the vMix software includes:

Total Inputs refers to the maximum number of inputs that you can load into vMix. This includes anything you can add under the "Add Input" menu in vMix. Such as Videos, Images, Titles, Virtual Sets, Cameras etc. Total Inputs includes Capture Inputs.

Capture Inputs refers to the maximum number of camera or capture inputs you can load into vMix. This includes only inputs added via the "Camera" section under the "Add Input" menu in vMix.

For example, the "Basic HD" edition of the software allows 4 Total Inputs and 3 Capture Inputs. This means a maximum of 4 inputs can be loaded into vMix, 3 of which can be camera inputs. If you loaded a 2 camera inputs, 1 video file and 1 title for example, then this would reach the maximum number of inputs allowed in Basic HD.

The SD, HD, 4K and PRO editions of the software all feature a maximum of 1000 inputs.

I personally don't think a capture should count as camera but as stated in above capture is part of the camera count.

Due to the insanity of NAB we haven't had a chance to update everything on the web site to match the 17 release, but we're getting there!
One area I have just updated is the knowledge base article on the "Capture" (now "Cameras / NDI") limits in Basic and Basic HD.

To summarise, any capture card inputs or any NDI inputs are all counted as Camera inputs, so a maximum of 3 in Basic HD.
This includes remote desktop capture as it uses NDI.

The exception to this is "Local Desktop Capture" which does not use NDI so does not count towards the Camera inputs total.
So 2 SDI capture + 1 NDI + 1 Local desktop capture would work in Basic HD.

This has changed slightly from vMix 16 as the old remote desktop capture did not count as a camera input.
Due to worlds colliding between NDI and desktop capture this regrettably makes things a little more restrictive for customers
using 3 cameras and a remote desktop in prior versions of vMix, but I hope all the other new features and benefits of NDI will make up for that a little.

At any rate, $60 is still a bargain!

Thanks for clarifying that a local desktop capture is not considered a camera input, as that eases our use case concern about exceeding the camera count when bringing a local skype or other desktop window from the local computer.

No it's an ordinary input as it doesn't use a capture card nor NDI.
(Internally it just exports the slides from powerpoint as images, so technically it's just a fancier "Photos" input)
