I am VERY VERY excited about NDI, there are so many possibilities. I've already bought 2 vMIX licences and i'll be buying many more.
You mention the bandwidth will be about 100mbit per channel.
Is there any possible way you could allow us to adjust the bandwidth? And even the caching?
Even if bandwidth adjustment isn't a part of the NDI standard, could we tick a special box which will allow us to become non-standard and adjust the bandwidth?
We are going to be setting up vMIX's at different venues around a city and it would be great if we could adjust NDI to between 10mbit - 20mbit which would allow us to use standard "Fibre to the home" NBN network in our area to link everyone up.
100mbit is way too high anything outside of a LAN.

At this time NDI can only be used with PC's in the same network/LAN. You could set up a VPN to those remote locations to get around this limitation.
As for the bandwidth limit, 100Mbps is for 1080p video. Lower resolutions would not require as much bandwidth.
But, time will tell!

Thanks for the reply. Yes I realise a VPN will be needed, but it would be great to get a 1080p picture with an adjustable bitrate.
Martin will know that Australia has the National Broadband Network with 35mbit upload speeds on Fibre to the Node (FTTN). It would be great if it can be adjusted so this will work over Australia's NBN.

A solution is coming soon, called "NDI Relay" see http://sienna.tv/ndi

Isn't NDI entirely built for the LAN? My impression from here is that it includes a specific Newtek codec. All that I've seen or heard about this codec is that it's lightweight and DCT based. Further, that once the stream has been compressed it's not supposed to suffer further degradation from repeated passes over an NDI link. This somewhat suggests that it may not presently allow for different, user-definable bit rates. If it does, please enlighten us as to how?

Looking at the info presented here http://sienna.tv/ndi I gather that NDI relay is a form of transcoding gateway. I look forward to further details when it's released. Michael
