Elgato Game Capture HD - max 1280x720?

Hello
I recently bought vMix Basic HD and I have to say, it's a really nice piece of software! I'm planning to capture and livestream music events with multiple camera's. However, I will start small and so I have chosen for a cheap setup with a lapotp and USB capture cards. This is my setup
VIDEO SOURCE 1 : Canon DSLR camera through USB (with SparkoCam) as a virtual webcam --> this works perfect as a video source in vMix (32-bit & 64-bit), 1920x1080 resolution
VIDEO SOURCE 2 : GoPro 4 through Avermedia Live Gamer Portable Lite/GL310 USB 2.0 Capture Card with Avermedia Stream Engine --> this works perfect as a video source in vMix (only 32-bit), 1920x1080 resolution
VIDEO SOURCE 3 : GoPro 4 through Elgato Game Capture HD USB 2.0. I can select this as a source in vMix (only 32-bit), but here comes the problem:
>> I add a new source to vMix. I select the Elgato Game Capture HD USB 2.0 device. I select the settings: resolution 1920x1080, 30 fps. I also tried the 60i option. I click 'save'.
The new video input is there. But when I click on the properties of the video input, I see the resolution has changed. It shows me the input is 1280x720.
I'm pretty sure this is a fault in vMix. I searched on the OBS forums and they had the same problem, but they rewrote the software and now 1920x1080 is supported with this capture card.
And yes, I'm sure my HDMI input is 1920x1080 - I checked it in the Elgato Game Capture HD software that comes with it, and as you can see the capture card supports this resolution.
I installed the newest drivers and I also tried installing olders drivers but the thing always goes back to 1280x720.
Anyone who can help me or has the same problem and knows a workaround?
I like to use this capture card, but it's a pity it only goes up to 1280x720 in vMix.

ceedoo,
vMix Basic HD only allows three (3) capture inputs and a total of four (4) inputs. You are attempting to capture 4 video sources.

I don't know if you have read my post, but this is not my problem.
By the way, I'm only using 3 capture inputs (I thought it was pretty clear with the titles in bold?) and my setup works perfect - except for the resolution problem of the Elgato Game Capture in vMix (1920x1080 automatically goes to 1280x720).

I suspect the problem is the encoding type used over the USB 2.0 bus. 720p30 is the max that can be achieved using uncompressed, which is what's indicated by YUY2 in your screen shot. See if you can change the encoding to something tighter like MJPEG or H264. Incidentally, SparkoCam doesn't really deliver 1920 x 1080. AFAIK, no DSLR will deliver compressed frame via USB. Consequentially SparkoCam gets the best it can from the camera, but then upsamples the frames to whatever you seek. I blogged about this some time ago.In the case of my older Canon XSi the native resolution that the camera could deliver via USB was something less then 1280 x 720. This remains the case with my newer Canon 70D.

Also, the Elgato capture card encodes the video in the capture card itself, so it would be no problem to get this through USB 2.0. The Avermedia capture card does this too, and with this capture card there's no problem to get the full 1920x1080. It's weird. I suspect it has something to do with vMix itself. I already suspected that SparkoCam upsampled the frame, but thank you for confirming. In the future I'll buy another capture card, maybe. But first I have to solve my other problem...

You are correct. It's something about how vMix init's the device, or thinks it should init the device. Some devices more closely mimic a webcam. It appears that the El Gato device does not. A while back I had wanted something that would record 1080p60 from an Android tablet (via USB OTG.) My BMD Intensity Pro would not. I tried the El Gato device but found it wanting. I eventually bought an AVer Media Game Broadcaster HD (C127) HDMI capture card.

I have this exact same problem with vMix 17.0.0.76 x64 and the Elgato HD60 Pro PCI-E capture card.
Did you figure out how to fix it?

Did you figure out how to fix it? I update to 17.0.0.88. Same problem. vMix needs to fix this.

Revisiting this thread in its entirety, have you tried changing the frame rate setting to NTSC 59.94i? The 1080i source may require that the frame rate setting also be interlaced.

I thought my source was 1080p through the Elgato card?

desertmoose706 wrote:I thought my source was 1080p through the Elgato card? The El Gato app screen shot shows it as a 1080i59.94. Capture devices like the El Gato and my AVer C127 take the 1080p stream and convert it to 1080i. Historically, these devices targeted capture of games (PC or console.) That's really capturing the display output. Most devices only output 1080p60 for the purposes of display. In the broadcast realm 1080i59.94 is the standard for production, storage and transmission. Very surprised this still has received zero dev/admin attention. Guess I will not be buying an elgato.

Elgato has four products: HD60 Pro, HD60 S, HD60, HD. To highlight the product details: HD60 is a using USB 2, sending a stream online, e.g. to Twitch, Youtube, up to 40 Mbps. As earlier mentioned it is only possible to capture up to 720p30 (due to USB 2 and not USB 3) HD60 S (note the S), uses USB 3 has "Instant Gameview" feature, which is the feature of capturing the video, up to 40 Mbps. HD60 Pro is the internal capture card, capturing up to 60 Mbps. NOTE ALSO: HD60 S has video resolutions 1080p60, 1080p30, 1080i (50 i guess), 720p60, 720p30. Note that 1080p25 nor 1080p50 is not provided. What I don't understand: I use the HD (USB 2.0) and with the software Elgato provides, I'm able to capture and livestream in 1080p 30fps. I don't understand why this isn't possible when you input this card in vMix?

Also another question, is it possible to use multiple of the Elgato capture cards? I have a laptop with a pretty decent i7, 16GB ram, Nvidia graphics cards, so that's no problem I think. But I know that you can only use one Avermedia USB capture card at the same time as the Stream Engine from Avermedia allows only one. Is this also the case with Elgato's HD capture cards?

My ituation says that it should be possible to use multiple capture cards, however I cannot find any documentation about this. Elgato HD60 S supports p50???I have another thing that I am looking for regarding this Elgato capture cards, which is - Do it support 1080p50? :-) My cameras supports only output 1080p50 and NOT 1080p60, and therefore, I'm only interested in the Elgato HD60 S if it ALSO supports 1080p50. Anyone having insight in this?I searched through the Elgato support website, and the closest answer I've got, is this statement from the Elgato website: ( https://help.elgato.com/customer/portal/articles/2368632-video-cameras-and-elgato-game-capture-hd60-s ) Quote:Some types of cameras that can work with Elgato Game Capture HD60 S:
• DSLRs • AVCHD cameras • Medical cameras • Security cameras • Digital camcorders The page does however not state anything about additional accepted framerates like p25 / p50..
