I believe this requested before but it was phrased as HTTP input.
An input which allows you to add a web page as a source. Why is this useful? You could create a whole overlay system based as a webpage using HTML, CSS and Javascript. You'd then simply add the webpage as a source and control the overlays externally via another page using things like sockets etc. It would rapidly speed up overlay and graphic development. Web-based overlays are something that are increasing in popularity and saves the hassles of having to make the web page have a green background and then adding the source as a camera or desktop capture and then chroma keying. Anything that's not colored on a webpage would be transparent. If you want to see examples of how this works in other software check out XSplit or OBS. Both of these have examples of adding Webpage URLs (OBS requires a plugin - CLR Browser Plugin)

I know this sort of feature would be a big hit in the Esports/Gaming broadcast side of things

I would love this feature too. I'm in the middle of coding webpages with SQL database to display Team Lineups, Starting 5, Stats etc. As mention using green background but having what you suggested with transparency on all elements that don't have colour set would be great.
Also looking to feed data in flash so can have animated titles. But swf are already supported. Webpage is quick method to display dynamic data on screen visually with graphics that I can control through database and have as a desktop capture. But a Webpage Url would be perfect as a input.

You will have all this and more with CasparCG and vMix17 with NDI :-)

I requested this before as a HTML5 Graphics input but yes, this is exactly what I would love. stevespaw wrote:You will have all this and more with CasparCG and vMix17 with NDI :-) Did CasparCG add an HTML/Browser producer? Last I checked they didn't have one. And what does NDI have to do with it? The CasparCG setup just looks a lot more complicated than a simple Browser input, anyway. There are a plethora of HTML5 graphics tools that are available for graphics to use in programs like OBS and Xsplit that simply can't be used in vMix, and it would be really, really nice to be able to. Flash is dying, let's stop using it.

Yes they have had an HTML producer for a while now adding to everything else you can do with CasparCG. NDI will be the connector with Alpha channel to vMix.

NDI can also receive/send an Alpha channel? I mean surely the easiest solution would still be just to add native browser input support directly inside of VMix.

There is no reason why you can't use NewTek "LiveText". Setting up Caspar CG for an HTML producer is very easy. You can use a multipurpose client like " Simple Video Playout" to get started. Steve

I started looking in to NDI a bit more last night, it sounds awesome to be honest. I'll have to give it a whiz when vMix 17 is out. I have used Caspar CG in the past, mainly using Flash for the lower thirds but that got tedious and had too many restrictions.

So I guess the fact that this video was 3 years ago means this feature is now available in CasparCG?
The main reason I ask for browser input is I run a website that creates overlays for gamers which pulls in dynamic information from a website called Twitch.tv. The overlay needs to have its dimensions set to 1920x1080 but it'd be cool to be able to directly add them in to vMix.

Ah okay thanks, I'll take a look.
Also, I haven't really searched too much but regarding the HTML producer for CasparCG, is there a way to force the source to a certain resolution? So for example the page will get rendered as if it was open full screen on a 1920 x 1080 monitor but the output from Caspar wouldn't have to be 1080p

While I appreciate that there is a workaround using CasparCG, there is simply no comparing to the raw convenience and ease-of-use of having a built-in input for rendering HTML/CSS/Javascript as a graphical overlay. Many existing video production tools have such inputs available to them (such as OBS and Xsplit), and a huge number of users of those programs depends so heavily on tools like TwitchAlerts or NodeCG for graphics that they take Browser input as a baseline fundamental requirement.
I think there is more than enough justification for adding Browser input as an input source in vMix proper.

Good news! Web browser support will make it into vMix 17! It uses CEF (Google Chrome) so it should all work the same as OBS including transparent background support.
You will also be able to use the mouse to control the web page directly in the input (or when in preview and output) which should work great for users wishing to show web pages during their show.
The only caveat is there is no way to get the sound from the browser into vMix directly as users of OBS know. We can only hope they update CEF to allow this in the future, or users will have to go the route of capturing the desktop audio separately.
Regards,
Martin vMix

That's great news, thanks!
So regarding the audio, are you saying that if the user captures their desktop audio, they will be able to hear the sounds from the Browser input (mixed with the rest of their desktop audio)?
