For one major reason is that the director would not have to do it as well as mixing video and the reasources it takes up on th PC would be very high,recording 3 or more inputs at once,,,,,,a quick question ,when using the video delay function does that record a file or just does a buffer of time ,but replay records the inputs and will fill up a drive quick ,so the possibility to access those files via a ext editing program would be impossible.....am I wrong?

@ Digitalson

AFAIK, the "Instant Replay" feature was originally conceived and designed to function with or without an independent operator and to potentially be used on two systems (although I am unclear on the particulars of that development, but NDI might be a big step in that direction in vMix 17). It is a "High End" feature and requires "High End" components to function stably.

The "Video Delay" feature has the ability to "Save" individual clips of the buffered delay for use later, otherwise, it is not recorded.
The "Instant Replay" feature has the ability to create and "Export" desired clips from the recording for editing or creating 'Highlight reels'.

Hope that helps some.

What I'm asking is that the delay just uses a buffer not recorded,I'm not sure ,but the replay records 4 cams to the drives,constantly so u can't pull files from them,but must eat up tons of hd space right? Where the buffer does not actually recording anything? But if the replay program was on a different comp and feed the 4 replays back into vmix that would be better just for the sake of reasources alone .just a suggestion

What you are asking is possible already. In fact, that is how a lot of us use the replay module, on a second computer. This requires the incoming signal to be split to both computers then the replay packages are fed back to the main vMix system. You will find that this is very similar to the more mainstream ( and expensive) replay solutions. In the not too distant future, the use of NDI will allow all of this to be done, still on two computers, via an ethernet cable.

In both scenarios, you will need to purchase two licences. One for the replay machine and one for the switcher/streamer. However as Martin mentioned on the Liveshow, one of the licences could be a HD licence rather than PRO.

@ Digitalson

NDI = Network Device Interface
These videos probably explains it best:

Id like to see it as a separate program as well, or at the very least make it so it does not take over the program and preview window for its workflow but add its own windows in the popup out.
