Greetings,
I have been testing a setup that will record locally, and also stream to a SundayStreams account. The mixing is done by a separate video mixer, so the computer with Vmix installed only has a single Blackmagic Design Mini Recorder card to accept the SDI from the mixer.
Because of this setup, however, we are using the integrated Realtek HD Audio card on the motherboard to receive a feed directly from the soundboard.
The problem we are experiencing is odd, but the audio in the stream is fine when there is just one person speaking. However, as the sound input increases (i.e. singers, then orchestra, then choir, etc...) the audio quality plummets and incurs artifacts. It sounds like a MP3 file that was encoded at 32kbs bitrate. Oddly enough, the video quality doesn't suffer.
We worked with tech support at SundayStreams, and they are also confused, since there are no errors in the stream settings, and we are not maxing out the upload bandwidth. The CPU usage averages 15% while streaming, and 60% while streaming and recording.
The computer is brand new with a 4th gen i7 3.06Ghz, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GT610 graphics, and two 1TB hard drives, with Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
I am investigating the video recordings now, but could a culprit be a compatibility issue with the Realtek sound card? Would a separate Creative sound card be better?
OR
Is there a SDI adapter that would allow us to "insert" the audio feed from the sound board so that we could capture the audio with the Blackmagic card instead?
Thank you for your time.

What mixer are you using, and what do the levels on your mixer look like when the sound increases? Are they in the Yellow or in the Red? If the levels too hot then overmodulation will lead to poor quality, distorted audio. How do the audio levels on vMix appear when the sound increases? Also have you tried the Compressor function in vMix? But that is only effective if the audio levels from the external mixer aren't too hot. Because if they are all you will get is compressed overmodulated audio, which still produces low quality audio. If your levels are not too hot (overmodulated) try another sound device. If you can't use the Blackmagic Mini for audio, and have a free USB port, try a Behringer UCA202. It has unbalanced RCA inputs, runs about $29 on Amazon, and about the same on eBay. I use the Behringer, and also have an M-Audio USB. The integrated RealTek devices do not deliver quality audio from my experiences. When I would build desktop systems I would disable them and add a high quality audio device.

Thank you for your reply.
The church has an Allen&Heath iLive mixer. A signal is digitally sent up to the recording booth via a PL10. From there it is converted to an analog signal that is brought into the sound card.
The levels coming in are not red lining, and only occasionally flash red. I also have a Behringer UCA202, and was going to try that next.
I agree with your assessment of the Realtek audio cards, they do fine with simple playback, but do not always work well in a situation like this.
I have also been in communication with the technician that setup the video mixing system. We are working on a possible plan to insert the audio into the SDI feed to the Black Magic card. However, using the Behringer UCA202 would be easier in this case.
Either way I will post my results.
Thank you for your help!
