I got myself a new black magic video assist. this a cheap and versatile monitor with full input hdmi / sdi and throughput and full recording capabilities.
basically i can record 10 bit 2.2.2 pro rws straight from my cameras and dslr / full frame cameras.
currently testing it out to record vmix sessions using the external output through a bm shuttle or mini monitor.
I want to use this setup to be able to do on the fly editing during or just after recording. I can simply stop exchange the card and start again and the recording can be post processed right away on a laptop p.e. for near real time live streaming.
so far so good. if anybody is interested, just drop me a message or reply.
advantage is i can record on sd cards and swap these during recordings and i have a what you see is what you get monitor showing exactly what i am recording, video, overlays, audio etc etc with extra check on audio etc.
better safe than sorry. greetings stefan

Thanks for sharing Stefan.
One thing I'd like to ask. Can bm video assist act like hdmi to sdi converter (because it has hdmi and sdi ins and outs)?

no conversion just an input and throughput of hdmi or sdi.
records in prores with peaking and other tricks. basically its just a small monitor and recorder using cheap sd cards.

In some ways it's similar to the earlier Hyperdeck Shuttle recorder, which had the same signal conversion capability - and the same non-BNC SDI connectors.

this is getting better. I did not have time to test this because I did not give it any chance. but now I will. that means I have a free recorder or converter, any which way you wanna see it... stefan

just talked to a guy from bm inpurt here in NL.
he did a quick test and confermed the hdmi sdi conversion!! so if you want to buy a converter and a video assost: you will have a bargain.
but now my quest is to find affordable cables that fit and convert from sdi to the bm mini sdi output / input. these are so called DIN 1.0 / 2.3 connections.
the bm cables are expensive short and come standard in two versions sdi male and female. i want longer cables and just male sdo inly so i can fit them on my camera or cards....
pretty easy in theory and you can fit the plugs yourself if you have access to the right crimping tool and the right size plugs.
anybody there who is doing this? fitting din plugs on a standard sdi cable to connect to bm stuff.? stefan
